150mg aspirin TTC question

DancinOnTheCeiling · 25/12/2022 22:20

After some research and several miscarriages (🥲) I think I’ll try 150mg aspirin from around 1dpo. It seems to be something that has helped many people so I’d like to give it a try. Just wondering what time of day people have taken it?

Posting under pregnancy as I figured the best advice will be by those who have managed to fall pregnant this way..

I’ve been told to take it and not been told any particular time.

I personally take it with food though because it gives me stomach ulcers.

Anewhoo · 25/12/2022 22:48

Was told to take it when I got a positive test.

DancinOnTheCeiling · 25/12/2022 23:18

Thanks @Anewhoo and @TheWeeLittleDonkey - much appreciated! 😊

Took it from 1 dpo until 36 weeks and I took it in the morning with the rest of my meds.

You should be taking it at night as aspirin is most effective when taken at night. I take aspirin for a medical condition that for me causes recurrent miscarriage. The recurrent miscarriage clinic I am under advised that following a 10 year, Europe wide study of over 100 hospital trusts, the advice is now to take at night (or with your evening meal). This is whether you take it for miscarriage, clotting issues, stroke, heart attack, pregnancy complications such as low Papp-A or preeclampsia - take it at night x

Littlegoth · 26/12/2022 07:35

Here is one example of an NHS leaflet specifying time of day. If you Google your local hospital trust they should have their own with similar info.

www.hey.nhs.uk/patient-leaflet/aspirin-in-pregnancy/

it’s not a definitive list of why aspirin is given in pregnancy. I take 150mg every night forever (unless breastfeeding as it’s not good for the baby - I need a bridge medication then. I take it for APS. For me the benefits are it stops my platelets clumping together and causing tiny clots in the placenta. Early on these tiny clots prevent secure implantation which can result in slow growth and miscarriage. Pregnancy makes the blood stickier, for everyone and it starts at conception. Some women are affected more than others which is one reason aspirin is given as a preventative measure in and before early pregnancy. I know lots of people who have found aspirin helps in pregnancy, but for me I wouldn’t even get off the starting line without it.

Thanks @Pollywoddles
did you have previous miscarriages or did you take aspirin ‘just in case’?

@Littlegoth that’s very helpful, thank so much. Really good to know about the research and that it says to take it in the evening..

Hi, I've been advised to take 150mg at night because it's absorbed better. My midwife said she doesn't think it will be long before it's standard practice for every pregnant person to be prescribed aspirin as a matter of course.

MO22 · 26/12/2022 09:37

Hiya, I had one MMC this time last year and in Sept a gynaecologist advised I take 75mg aspirin from ovulation. I had just ovulated, I did, and I found out I was pregnant that month - I'm almost 19w now.

It may have been coincidence, but I had been doing everything else (and I mean everything, supplements, acupuncture, exercise, diet, etc) for 9 months so who knows.

I still take it now, I was actually advised to up it to 150mg to make it a useful dose to stop pre eclampsia but I haven't done that yet.

Hope that helps and wishing you all the luck in the world ❤️

MO22 · 26/12/2022 09:39

Oh and I take it midday, can't even remember why, most likely to avoid some other medication. I would have done my research but looks like @Littlegoth has done a lot so would definitely go with that, I will probably start taking it at night!

seven201 · 26/12/2022 09:49

I'm under a recurrent miscarriage clinic. I was told to take 75 in the evening.

Bellesjp · 26/12/2022 10:10

I don't take for recurrent miscarriage, I was prescribed after 12 week scan to prevent preeclampsia but was told aspirin should be taken just before bed as more affective. Assume it would be the same x

Batbatbatty · 26/12/2022 10:45

Take it before bed

Pollywoddles · 26/12/2022 12:10

DancinOnTheCeiling · 26/12/2022 09:27

Thanks @Pollywoddles

Previous miscarriages

Dyra · 26/12/2022 16:20

I knew I'd need to be taking it due to pre-eclampsia in previous pregnancy, so started from BFP. I took it in the evening just before bed, as that's when I best remember to take any medication. Turns out it's best, but for me it was because aspirin makes me a little queasy. So taking it just before bed meant I'd be asleep by the time any nausea hits.

DancinOnTheCeiling · 27/12/2022 20:47

Thanks so much for everyone’s messages. So so much appreciated!

@Butterflies12 that’s so interessant your MW said it’ll become standard procedure. Thanks for the info!

@MO22 congratulations, that’s fab news. I hope you’re doing okay and your pregnancy is going well. Sounds like aspirin did the trick for you.

After two MC I took it upon myself to take 75mg before bed from the day I got a positive test. ( I had it in my head that I wanted to make sure the implantation wasn't effected. No reason in particular or proof it would be necessary)
My third pregnancy was successful

DancinOnTheCeiling · 28/12/2022 08:01

Congratulations @Doodledeedum - sounds like the aspirin did the trick. I’ve heard so many stories, I really hope they do what @Butterflies12 says ie that it becomes standard practice soon!
