Hello lovely mummies
Hope you are having a lovely Christmas with your families. I just thought I'd pop in for a bit of advice . I believe I have come down with uti ( I took the urine stick and there's a trace of white cells leycocities , albeit very small ) and present the classic symptoms of excessive urination in small quantities at night . No fever nor back pain . I am 34 weeks pregnant and had a growth scan yesterday ( all fine 🙂) and was wondering, given that my GP will be closed until after the holidays, where could i get antibiotics ? Should I contact my midwife ?

ANY ADVICE WOULD BE HIGHLY APPRECIATED.

thank you my lovelies

Hello,
Are you in any pain with it or blood (not that you want it to get that bad!). Just thinking if you're not you could wait until the doctors are open, although 111 online form you could fill in and say you're pregnant with urine infection, they'd probably just do a prescription and send it to your nearest 24 hr or emergency pharmacy

Zen8 · 24/12/2022 22:58

I second you should call 111

NameChange329435 · 24/12/2022 23:01

I'd be phoning 111 if I were you. I had sepsis at 36 weeks from a UTI.

Gooseysgirl · 24/12/2022 23:15

Call 111. I had a UTI a few weeks ago that almost landed me in hospital (horrendous flu like symptoms) I didn't realise how unwell I was until I was already on the antibiotic (had thankfully seen GP). I was only able to get my temp down with ibuprofen but you can't take that when pregnant! I was on instructions from 111 callback by Dr to go straight to A&E if I didn't improve. It was a full week of antibiotics before the UTI cleared.

Gooseysgirl · 24/12/2022 23:18

Sorry I should have pointed out that I deteriorated AFTER I had already seen GP. You don't want to rush it suddenly getting worse! If you fill in an online form on the 111 website you will get a callback. Probably quicker than going on hold on the phone.

I really hope you make a swift recovery - UTIs are awful 😕

Hi x
No pain or blood . No fever and feel fine apart from having to pee a lot , especially during the night . Given that it is Christmas Day I won’t be able to get hold of a prescription but I am scared that If I leave it too late it might get worse .

Another vote for 111.

YorkshireTeaCup · 25/12/2022 08:17

Yes, another vote for calling 111. Also when christmas is over, ask your midwife if you can be tested for Group B Strep. It can cause UTIs in women but more importantly if you have a vaginal delivery, it can cause sepsis and meningitis in newborns. My DD almost died at 24hrs old. But if you have been tested, it's easily treated with antibiotics in labour.

teezletangler · 25/12/2022 08:27

OP it sounds like your symptoms are normal for this stage of pregnancy. Having to pee a lot in small quantities is completely normal because of the pressure that the uterus is putting on the bladder. As for leukocytes, on their own they don't necessarily mean you have a UTI.

Jellybean2023 · 25/12/2022 08:28

@OP there should be an emergency pharmacy open I'm sure, when you speak to 111 they can see where is open. Up to you though. Or do it tomorrow. X

teezletangler · 25/12/2022 08:30

Sorry I meant to say that a trace of leucocytes is not really something to worry about as a very small amount is a normal finding.

mummyh2016 · 25/12/2022 16:21

You should have open access to triage, give them a call.

EasterBunny7 · 25/12/2022 16:39

Not to scare you, but UTIs can become serious. Never underestimate it just because it is very common in pregnancy. My waters broke prematurely due to a UTI and I lost my baby. Hope you managed to get your antibiotics through 111.

fairgame84 · 25/12/2022 16:49

They don't normally treat just for leukocytes. I had them in nearly all of my samples. I only got antibiotics when leukocytes where accompanied by nitrites or blood.

At how many weeks was this? Have a suspected uti at 13 weeks and waiting for urine sample to come back from the lab as they won't prescribe before that as I don't have the typical burning when I wee but my kidney hurts, frequent wee, dull back ache🫠had a scan today baby's fine me on the other hand not so much I'm very worried it can cause a miscarriage if left for so long while I wait for results

Hi there, not sure you'll see this but how did you get on? I have similar issue! Been on antibiotics a week but it still doesn't feel right. Hope all is okay with you & the baby

When you finish your course of antibiotics take another sample to your surgery to test, you shouldn't need to bother with an appointment just leave it with reception. I had a UTI in my last pregnancy which took 10 weeks to shift. I had multiple courses of nitrofurantoin that wouldn't shift it, it was only a low dose 4 week course of cefalexin that finally got rid of it - this only got prescribed by a urogynae I was referred to.

Oh god, that sounds awful! Poor thing, sounds like a nightmare. Did you get any others or just the one epic ten week one? I was on cefalexin before and now on co-amoxiclav but seems to be getting worse so going back to the doctors today :(

mummyh2016 · 22/01/2025 17:52

@terryclothrobe it was the same UTI, just wouldn't shift. The nitrofurantoin worked whilst I was taking it then as soon as I finished a course it started up again Sad I hope you manage to get sorted!
