5 weeks pregnant, severe cramps

Hi, I'm 5 weeks pregnant, currently taking progesterone to help the pregnancy.

I've been randomly having these really really bad cramps! They come on quite suddenly and then get super intense for like 20 minutes then ease off and go away.. I had them twice today but once all the other days.

My doctor claims this is normal.

Has anyone else experienced this? They feel like really strong menstrual cramps and have me curled up in agony :(

I had bad period like pains around that time and remember being scared to get up in the morning incase I was actually bleeding, but there was always nothing! I think it's just your uterus growing and adapting to the changes. I'm now 37+4 😊

@mrsgtobe97 how did you cope with them when they came? I was curled up on the floor crying last night for 20 minutes waiting for it to end

Have you checked the NHS website? Yes cramps are common but if they're that strong you should get them checked out. Call your local early pregnany unit.

I had frequent strong period pains until about 30 weeks

baby is fine, all well

It’s very normal at this stage

Hi All, just wondering how long your pains lasted in early pregnancy? Mine went on for 1.5 weeks (4-5.5 weeks) and nothing for the last 4 days which is worrying me. Can they stop early on?

ceruleansky · 30/01/2024 16:11

Yes, I felt them right from 4 weeks(when my period was due) until now at 14 weeks. I take progesterone too, and sometimes they are severe and scary. As long as you don't have bleeding or spotting there's nothing to worry about.

always consult your gp. i had severe pains immediately from 4 weeks on with no bleeding or spotting, and it was ectopic. i thought it was just implantation pain.

I had this with my first pregnancy. It would wake me in the night. I was convinced I was going to lose the baby. That baby is now 6 years old.

My doctor said it was normal and wrote it off as implantation cramps (at 6 weeks pregnant....). It only lasted a couple of weeks then stopped, but it was very similar to labour pain

@user1488042156 thank you. This is really reassuring! I hope I have the same
