16 week ante natal appointment?

Hi lovely people.

Just a bit of advice really, went for my 16 week appointment today, but I'm nearly 19 weeks! As they 'couldnt fit me in' Midwife is only at the doctors once a week every Fortnight.

She didn't do my blood pressure, test urine, didn't do anything really I got a blood form for 25 weeks appt and that's it. It says you listen to baby with Doppler on the appt sheet, she said she might not be able to find her heartbeat so she's not going to, even though I've got an at home one and I can find her heartbeat!

I went back in after as I walked out concerned, she was calling the next woman in, I said shouldn't I have had my blood pressure done and urine test done then? She said no my OBS look fine, I haven't had any observations! Not had blood pressure or urine test done since 10 week appt 2 months ago!

What do you all think, just after people's experiences, should I be phoning the doctors back? Xx

TIA lovely people

Xxxx

A lot of trusts only do a phone call at 16 weeks to discuss previous bloods and ask how you are, so urine tests, blood pressure definitely aren’t necessary. My trust don’t use Doppler until 24 week appointment. They say they’re not accurate enough to use before then. All health care professionals advise against home Dopplers as they can make you think things are ok when they’re not

@twoinapod They didn't even discuss bloods with me at my 16 week appt and it was face to face I was told to just wait for a letter! 🤷‍♀️ They used the doppler at 18 weeks when I ended up in hospital, think they tell you not to as a lot of people can't tell the difference between placenta/cord sounds, your own heartbeat and babys heartbeat! I've been really lucky at my midwife appts and they've been thorough and done urine, BP and doppler since 16 week appt. I've just had my 25 week appt and she measured my bump too.

How strange for you, I understood they tested urine at every appt.

@elelm26 aw good I'm glad for you! My 16 week appt was a shambles then I ended up in hospital and they couldn't understand why the midwife didn't do basic checks! Ive now had my 25 week appt, she checked blood pressure and urine and doppler, but she didn't measure my bump, I think that may be at my 28 week appt. Someone on FB was on about growth charts before the centile baby is on and all that stuff? I've not had that checked either, I've got the chart in my file but nothing on it, strange x

Hope everything is okay now.

My twins are 10 weeks now and I never had my bump measured with them but did with my eldest DS.

They said because I was in for regular growth scans (once a month) they didn't need to do the bump measurements. Are you in for growth scans at all?

Freespirit98 · 17/02/2023 08:02

@PiPinkButtercups aww amazing congratulations on your twinnies! ❤️No I've never had a growth scan only had 12 wk, and 20 wk, and they've never mentioned booking one in 🤔 I'm going to see if she does bump measurements at my 28 week app which is 6th March, I'm also debating whether to get a private scan anyway for peace of mind, they are expensive though arent they 🫣 not sure yet though x

@Freespirit98 i think with my daughter (8ish years ago) they didn’t measure bump until 28 weeks but it’s not very accurate early on especially. My bump was measuring small so had 2 growth scans but she was normal size. She was small but 6lbs 12oz so still a normal size it was just her position.

Freespirit98 · 21/04/2023 23:29

Just been going through my notifications and spotted this one sorry! Thanks for your reply :) Yes I'm 36 weeks now and had a few bump measurements, I had 1 growth scan due to a midwife measuring me differently to the way I usually get measured or something? Haha so she said I was 3 weeks ahead but all was fine when I went, and I've not been sent for another one since! Just want baby out now you get fed up don't you :( 6lbs 12oz is a great size! Can I ask what clothes she fitted in? I'm struggling packing my hospital bag with all these different sizes 🤣😵‍💫 xxx

@Freespirit98 yea not a bad size but she was 8 days late so definitely small but within normal. She was in tiny baby at first as newborn drowned her but only for 2-3 weeks. We didn’t have any tiny baby at first so had to go get some but didn’t buy much as knew it wouldn’t last long. No idea what weight this one will be as she’s being born 5 days early (planned c section) but I’ll probably just buy newborn again for hospital bag and see what happens 😂

@allgoodthings84 Oh bless her! Cute 🥰 I have just got like 8 babygrows and 8 vests all in really good condition off vinted! As people have said if you have a long baby they won't fit in them so I thought not buying loads and buying new whem she's here if we do need it 🤣 Thanks for your advice 🥰🥰🥰
