Cervix measuring below 25 with cervical stitch

Hi everyone, I’m currently 21 weeks and 5 days. I had a cervical stitch placed at 14 weeks pregnant due to a previous loss at 22 weeks 4 days. My cervical scan was 33mm at 17 weeks. I’ve just got my cervix measured today and it’s 24.9mm. I am going to start taking cyclogest 200mg a day to try and put off early labour as much as possible. Im really worried that my cervix is shortening even with a stitch placed. The hospital have said if my body goes into labour there is nothing they can do. And had a brief talk with me about if I went into premature labour this week! It took me four years to get pregnant with this little one as I have pcos. I don’t know what to do im just really scared. Has anyone else had this happen and had it turn out ok?

I didn’t want to read and run. I don’t have the full experience, so can only help so
much.

I was at risk, so I was put on 400mg cyclogest twice a day and was told light activity only, no intercourse. Basically put on bed rest. Regular scans of my cervix.

Is there a reason they are prescribing such a low dose of cyclogest?

Have they spoken to you about transferring to a hospital with a NICU?

Thanks for replying. I have put myself on bed rest since I found out I was pregnant. The doctors said it was not necessary but I read it could help and was put on bed rest when I started going into labour with my previous pregnancy. I had no idea it was a low dose and don’t know why they would do that. I will definitely be getting on the phone to them to ask about it. I’m the one who actually asked about the pessaries. My hospital has a NICU and said they can help preterm babies born at 22 weeks but the thing they were saying about helping a baby that premature were horrific. I can’t even think straight writing this, I just don’t want to loose him. I really appreciate the reply. Thanks.

What happened with your pregnancy, did you have incompetent cervix? And what did your cervix measure at? Did the clyclogest make much difference?

I’m so sorry that you are going through this.

I have several risk factors for an incompetent cervix, but this pregnancy has been okay and I have been discharged from the PPROM clinic.

I was initially prescribed Cyclogest until 12 weeks due to previous losses. However, when I met with the consultant he changed the prescription to maintain full dose (400mg twice a day) until 36 weeks. He said this was to prevent my cervix shortening.

I can’t say for certain that the cyclogest has helped, but I feel like it did.

I’m glad your pregnancy is going well and cyclogest worked for you, I will be on the phone to the hospital first thing in the morning to ask about a higher dose. It’s horrible isn’t it when you have incompetent cervix. I’m just hoping cyclogest will work for me. The hospital has booked another cervical length appointment for me in 2-3 weeks. They usually only measure your cervix once after the stitch is put in. I was lucky thanks to a mix up with me thinking I was meant to get my length scanned as well as a normal scan that they checked my cervix length. They said they are thinking they might provide more than one cervical length scan for other people with a stitch in the future. Which I’m happy about as it could help other mums.

Oh my, that was a close call!

Good luck with them in the morning.

Are you under a PPROM clinic? You might find they are more helpful about cyclogest. Doctors and midwives from the normal pathway were always shocked I was still taking it
