‘Enjoy your lie-ins while you can’
’Here’s a video of DS running around…Enjoy your relaxing Saturdays while you can!’

First time mum here 🙋🏻‍♀️

I can’t work out why these sorts of comments grate on me… but they really do. Perhaps because it feels like they want to believe that I have ‘no idea’ what I’m letting myself in for (/naive), and it makes them feel better if they’re finding it tough/tiring?

Such a first world problem, but wanted to vent as been getting a few more of them recently with that sort of tone.

There's plenty of people on MN though who come on and say 'No one told me how hard it would be' on the parenting board. Which always makes me roll my eyes cos every fucker and his dog told me it would be fucking hard!

So you cannea win. You might get a child who sleeps through from day one. You might still be up in the night 18 years later. Everyone's parenting experience is different.

People say all kinds of annoying shit when you are pregnant that you don’t realise until you are the recipient. However I agree that you can’t know what it’s like until it happens to you. You’ve had a puppy so have some idea - you do the research, prepare yourself, but the reality of being up at night, exhausted, trying to understand the language of this wee inexplicable thing, having your normal activities so restricted…ad infinitum. Difference is that this phase is very short for puppies but people are right that until you experience it you will not know the fatigue etc of having a baby. That said, you may be lucky and get a sleeper and have a lovely time! Anyway you sound prepared and no wonder the comments irritate you. ‘Are you sure you haven’t got two in there’ was my personal fave 🙄

Sadly my dog still wakes me up at bloomin’ 6am every day, so bit resentful they haven’t grown out of that to be honest 😂

On the other things not to say to pregnant people, I’ve definitely been guilty of it in the past. My friend told me about how she hated people saying ‘wow look how big you are now!’ - I’ve probably said that in the past :/
