Anyone had partial previa and it’s moved? (Not just low lying)

Hi ladies

At my 20 week scan it was noted my placenta was anterior and that I had partial previa - the lowest part was covering my cervix, although only just.

Has anyone else had this, did it move? If so when by? I don’t mind a c section but have a normal delivery with my first baby so hoping to have another.

There’s lots of info saying 90% of them move but that also refers to low lying which aren’t actually covering so I’m worried my odds are lower than that.

thanks x

Hi just wanted to reply as I had this and found it so stressful!

I had full PP at my 20 week scan covering my cervix and was told it wouldn't move. I was terrified for the rest of the pregnancy. It did move away but not far enough for a VBAC despite being told it was basically impossible. I had no bleeding at all and had a C-section which went really well and less blood loss than my prior c section with a normal placenta.

Had the section at 38 weeks.

Best of luck!

Also to say. If you had a vaginal birth first time there is a 9/10 chance or will move. Less likely if you had a c section but not I possible

Cuppasoupmonster · 19/12/2022 22:16

Thanks flower! DD was a vaginal delivery so was hoping for the same again this time. Glad your CS went well and smoothly.

Saying a vaginal birth is 'normal' implies c sections are abnormal, they are not...

Cuppasoupmonster · 19/12/2022 22:26

I think you know perfectly well what I meant 🙄

I had it and it resolved around 25 weeks.

Cuppasoupmonster · 19/12/2022 22:44

Thanks @Delphinium20 was yours anterior?

I had a PP and it had moved by my 32 week scan. My sister had the same and hers had also moved. :)

Cuppasoupmonster · 21/12/2022 08:29

Thanks Jazz!

Mine was exactly like yours at 30 weeks, it had shifted by 33.

Cuppasoupmonster · 21/12/2022 08:57

Thank you Bronnau, finding these stories reassuring.

@Cuppasoupmonster I have only just found out at the 20 week scan last week, mine is anterior and covering the cervix. Possibly like yours. I had a tv scan to check the gap and there isn’t one at the minute. This is my first pregnancy to reach this stage, but I did have a d&c (erpc) in May for a miscarriage. I read that any kind of surgery on the uterus might be a reason for having placenta previa?

The sonographer was casual about it and said it will probably move. I’m hoping it does, I just don’t know if ‘there being no gap’ means it’s less likely to move? She said it needs a minimum of 3cm gap. Hopefully it will move, I have another scan at 32 weeks to find out, 11 weeks feels a long time away but I’m sure it will come quickly.

How are you feeling about it? Do you have a scan at around 32 weeks too?

Cuppasoupmonster · 26/12/2022 17:22

Hi Blue! Sorry to hear you have this as well. I’ve been doing some research into this as I was told virtually nothing by the hospital. I’m keen to avoid a CS if possible (although if I need one so be it), because I’m having a short maternity leave and have a condition which makes surgery/infection a bit riskier for me. My birth with DD wasn’t a walk in the park but I didn’t mind it so better the devil you know as well.

If it helps, I found out we have an 85% chance of it moving far away enough for it not to be an issue for the birth (that’s anterior partial previa specifically). Out of the remaining 15%, half of them will no longer be previa but perhaps won’t be far away enough to make a vaginal birth safe/recommended. 2cm is the general consensus on what is considered a ‘safe’ difference for a vaginal birth.

Here’s the screen shot from the study, let me know if you need the link 😊

Hope yours moves, mine didn’t but was very unlucky. If it doesn’t move then feel free to PM me!

mumoffourminimes · 26/12/2022 18:31

Mine was partially covering and did move, my mw was pretty positive about the chances of it moving all along although I was miserable about it. I really wanted another home birth and wasn't happy about the prospect of a c section either!

mumoffourminimes · 26/12/2022 18:32

Also I was told at 20 weeks they can't
Diagnose a praevia. They are all termed "low lying" until the 36 week scan when it's confirmed.

Cuppasoupmonster · 27/12/2022 09:52

Great yours moved! Scan is 3 weeks today so will update… 🤞🏻

Yes they didn’t say previa just low lying. It wasn’t until I pushed to know exactly how low lying that they showed me it was covering.

For anyone reading this in future, it moved! Just found out at 28 week growth scan.
