It's fine in pregnancy. Should avoid giving to babies under 1.

xttcbabyno1x · 18/12/2022 19:54

@user2391 thank you!! Yeah I wouldn't do but glad it's fine in pregnancy as she worried me sick!

Although a quick Google tells me that the chance of a baby getting botulism from honey is less that 1 in 10 billion.

RambamThankyouMam · 18/12/2022 22:24

I'm not trying to be a bitch here, but do you honestly think eating a couple of carrots could affect your pregnancy?? Babies were born in concentration camps, FFS.

RambamThankyouMam · 18/12/2022 22:24

Parsnips.

Liveafr · 18/12/2022 22:54

If you Google any food you will find someone telling you not to eat it during pregnancy.

That's the info you need

@RambamThankyouMam Just because babies are still being born out of terrible situations doesn't mean we can't do better?

Rather people being a tad too careful than not caring at all.

It's literally a honey roast Parsnip.. nothing to be 'too careful' about at all.

It's not heroin

fallfallfall · 19/12/2022 02:23

there's a difference between raw honey, pasteurized honey and cooking with honey. enjoy the parsnips and read up for when the baby is born.

Nadinya · 19/12/2022 02:51

You hear terrible things about honey and babies it's not a leap to ensure that you can have honey while pregnant.

My god what can people be horrible towards one another here with an innocent question.
@FangedFrisbee no-one compared it to heroin, it's an innocent question. Learn some compassion

xttcbabyno1x · 19/12/2022 06:32

Wow some people can be nasty! I didn't think anything of it til my friend scared me half to death 😂 jeez man people need to chill, literally just asking a question!

Thanks to all the nice responses x

Honey cannot be given to babies, but you are immune to it by now. It is due to the botuism bacteria.
Honey roasted has been heated up to quite a few degrees, so I would expect anything that ever was there to be well dead.
You will be ok OP.
Congratulations on your pregnancy!

olderthanyouthink · 19/12/2022 06:48

@MushMonster cooking honey at normal cooking temperatures doesn't kill off the spores that cause botulism, so cooked honey isn't safe for babies still but yeah it's not a problem for pregnant women

xttcbabyno1x · 19/12/2022 07:14

Thank you both xx

I think you've been very sensible OP.

You've checked out what your DF has said and the link to the Foods to Avoid list, which a PP linked to is excelled and the only foods you need to avoid.

I'd be taking the "advice" from my DF with a huge pinch of salt from now on, sounds like it's time to start practicing the "smile and nod" tactic Wink

Mumsnet. Where an inoffensive question about honey can have concentration camps brought up.

FangedFrisbee · 19/12/2022 07:49

Why does she need compassion for asking if a honey roast parsnip will cause issues in her unborn baby?

Timeforabiscuit · 19/12/2022 07:58

It's a worrying time pregnancy, I almost divorced dh when he insisted I should avoid ice-cream because it was risky for the baby (mass produced is absolutely fine, artisan farm made with unpasteurised milk and farm eggs, less fine).

Unfortunately you get barraged with well intentioned but wrong advice, and it changes all the time, so getting your own trusted sources of information lined up is worth while.

xttcbabyno1x · 19/12/2022 08:28

Thank you all x

I don't need compassion , literally just asking a question as there's actually a lot of different opinions on it online .. who knew! He's been kicking away this morning anyway.

It was only a question, the rude / sarcastic comments aren't needed, that's all.

Just wanted to add that there is a current warning about smoked salmon and listeria. The NHS guidelines might not mention it but they are advising that everyone thoroughly warms up smoked salmon before eating, even if you add to pasta, they're saying that might my best warm enough.
