I'm so excited and this is some welcome good news for our family as we've been through a tough time.

She thought she was going through menapause when she was late!!

She is 47 (had me when she was 17) and has been for a CVS or something? Anyone have any experience of this? Has she put herself at any risk?

I feel like a small child! I grew up with 4 little brothers so this could be my long awaited baby sister!!!!

Oh my God, wow!

expatinscotland · 02/02/2008 14:58

Whoa!

That's cool.

My dad's mum also became pregnant and had a son at 47.

Her oldest living child was 16 at the time.

The baby was also her sixth child, and she had no complications, a homebirth and breastfed till he was 2, just like all her others.

Lulumama · 02/02/2008 14:58

great news !!

has she had the results of her CVS?

there is a small risk of miscarraige IIRC

hope all is well, and how exciting.!

emilytankengine · 02/02/2008 15:04

I was wondering about the risk of miscarriage Lulumama. I've never even heard of CVS. Think it's a bit like an amnio but she is only 12 weeks gone.

The results are back early next week so I am hoping that if she was going to miscarry she would have done so by now?

Wats, my gran was the same!

She was already 5 months along when she found out she was actually pregnant, not menopausal!

Anyhow, her body was used to having babies and she did fine.

And the 'baby' is now in his 50s and a physician.

2happy · 02/02/2008 17:30

That's lovely, congratulations

Hi emilytankengine,

I had two CVS (the first one failed!) with this pregnancy and it is to test for chromosonal defects. Your mum will be high risk based on her age alone which is why they probably got her to get one! It is fairly risky but I was told by the doctor that if anything, it usually happens DURING the procedure. If the procedure itself is successful, then her risk for miscarriage falls quite dramatically. Just watch out for any fever symptoms etc in the 3-5 days after the procedure as that can be indicative of an infection, but that's rare!

Just want to say congrats and hope it's a baby sister for you!

nappyaddict · 03/02/2008 01:03

oh wow that is so exciting. was it a natural conception or had she been having any fertility treatment?

emilytankengine · 03/02/2008 10:21

It was natural! Totally unplanned too. They are a bit concerned about their age as she was only 17 when she had me. The last time she was pregnant was with my twin brothers and she was only 30 then - so it's been a while! I always though she'd have got sterilised but obviously not!

She has spent a lot of time in bed since the procedure as she's felt rough but they warned her that may happen.

Also she's been very sick this time. Which makes me hopeful for a girl! She was sick with me but not at all with any of the boys !

oh how lovely! Hope all goes well (and that you get the little sister you want!)

cluelessnchaos · 03/02/2008 10:39

My dads wife had a baby girl 3 years ago, and I got my sister at the age of 27, the were worried how I would react to not being the only girl, as if I was a toddler.

emilytankengine · 04/02/2008 15:06

She is going for her results this pm! I'm so nervous!

NorthernLurker · 04/02/2008 15:13

Good luck to your mum - how lovely for you all!

TigerFeet · 04/02/2008 15:27

How lovely

My Mum had my sister aged 42, she didn't know she was pg until around 25 weeks, again she thought she was menopausal. I was 17 and my brothers were 15 and 13. Sounds like it happens more often than one might expect!

MaeWest · 04/02/2008 15:28

How wonderful for you all - hope all goes well with test results

Alishanty · 04/02/2008 15:57

Hi, congratulations for your mum! My mum had me when she was 22 and then went on to have four more children in her 30's and 40's. She was 48 when she had the last one. They were all conceived naturally and there were no complications. It's really nice to have younger brothers and sisters. Good luck and hope it all goes well xx

soremummy · 04/02/2008 16:07

Tigerfeet your mum was just like me..Mine dc were 16,14 and 12 now we have a lovely dd 9 months old and im 42 this year, only problem is sometimes this baby has too many mums/dads and im dreading her being a toddler cos they have already said if I say she can't have something they will get it instead lol.

Emily I wish all the best for your mum and hope it all goes ok for her

EffiePerine · 04/02/2008 16:13

Hope all goes well . I have an aunt very close in age as she was conceived when my gran was in her 40s - no problems at all . IOn fact, think she benefited from grandma being far more chilled out that she was with her first 2 (18 year gap).

ShakeysGirl · 04/02/2008 16:20

I've just found out my mums pregnant too! Shes due in October i think and there will be a 26 year age gap between me (her oldest) and the new baby.
