Scared I won’t get pregnant because I’ve smoked for too long

Hi all. Guess I’m just looking for some reassurance? I stopped smoking this October (nearly two months), but have smoked for about 10 years. I’m 30 yrs old now. I had a miscarriage a couple of weeks ago, I was 6-7 weeks pregnant. It was all absolutely shit and I think I’ve just scared myself.

has anyone had successful pregnancy after having smoked for a long time? I’m worried I won’t have a chance of a healthy pregnancy even though I’ve quit.

Definitely. I started smoking when I was in my early teens. Got pregnant at 31 and 34, when I stopped smoking (then took it up again at some point after the babies were born). Quit for good age 36 and easily got pregnant at 38. 3 healthy kids to show for it.

Yes, I'd been smoking since I was 15. Pregnant at 28, smoked again from 30. Pregnant again at 34. Both normal pregnancies with healthy outcomes. They're both adults now. Please don't beat yourself up

I was 20 a day for 20 years and got pregnant late 30s as soon as I stopped

I smoked for nearly 20 years and drank quite a bit gave it up a year ago started vaping for health reasons as I was told I could not conceive naturally about 8 years ago so finding out I was expecting 4 months ago was a shock a very good one and my little miss is due 1st May so there is hope

Please don’t blame yourself for your miscarriage OP. It wasn’t your fault and there is nothing you could have done differently.

Miscarriages are really common - the stats range from anywhere between 1-3 to 1-6 known pregnancies ending in a miscarriage.

The likelihood is that this was just a fluke occurrence for you and your next pregnancy will be healthy.

Be easy on yourself, good luck for trying again x

Why would this even be an issue? Women have smoked and got pregnant for as long as smoking was a thing. Your lungs aren't attached to your reproductive system.

My mums always smoked and had four successful pregnancies

Go back 40 years or so and about half the population smoked, and women still got pregnant. Congrats on quitting!

I have a baby book from the early 50s and back then smoking while pregnant was normal. This book hardly mentions it and just says 'some doctors think it's beneficial to stop smoking'.

It's great you've stopped (as an ex smoker I know it's hard) keep up the smoke free life and I'm sure another pregnancy is right around the corner.

I smoked for 10 years before I fell pregnant with my dd when i was 32. Pregnancy was straightforward, although I did have to have a ELCS but that was because she was breech. I did have one early miscarriage a few months prior but I think that was just unlucky. I have numerous friends who've miscarried and they don't smoke.

My mum smoked from the age of 11 and got pregnant with me easily at 29.
