Alcohol in food?

Hi all I had a pasta bake earlier with what stated ‘white wine, white wine vinegar.’ On the ingredients I’m sure this is fine to consume it’s a jar sauce? To my knowledge wine etc is normally cooked out in food??

Yes the alcohol burns off, you'll be fine! I'd be more concerned about preservatives and chemicals in processed foods TBH but they're the norm and I'm sure they're fine

Cas112 · 15/12/2022 17:13

Yes fine. The alcohol is burnt off when cooking

Strawberriesandcreammm · 15/12/2022 17:15

This was the ingredients would you say not to have it again then with all the preservatives etc? I live alone so I just wanted something quick and easy after a long day

Alcohol evaporates off. And shop sauces have very little alcohol to start with

Strawberriesandcreammm · 15/12/2022 17:16

Just what I thought thank you😃

@Strawberriesandcreammm don’t worry about preservatives.
Most of us work full time and pregnancy is exhausting I certainly haven’t been cooking every meal from scratch and don’t know anyone else who has either.
You'll be fine!

P.s I’ve been craving pasta bake 🤤 enjoy!

There is unlikely to be any alcohol left in it as they will make that sort of product suitable for children. Even food with some noticeable alcohol taste (eg brandy butter, chocolates with alcohol, home cooked sauces using wine where it might not have all boiled off) will still be safe as the amount of alcohol you would be consuming is very small on the scale of things.

Thank you I’ve been eating terrible the past few days I feel awful for poor baby… tonight I had half a pasta bake and ended up eating a ham sandwich! Hardly nutritional for poor bean!! :-(

I had chips near enough every night with some kind of meat😂 hopefully baby will forgive me! Xx

@Strawberriesandcreammm don’t beat yourself up, me too.
I’ve only just in week 13 been able to start stomaching fruit and green again.
Today I had crumpets for breakfast, a halloumi, hummus and rocket bagel for lunch with a bag of hoola hoops and a fruit smoothie but for dinner I’m having pie chips and gravy because my partner is working and I have no energy to cook.
Genuinely though, cut yourself some slack !(I’m learning to do it too 😉)
Your taking your pregnancy vits right? That’s what’s super important.
Imagine the woman who have HG.

Sorry, didn't mean to worry you!! I was meaning it more from a don't worry it's fine, there are lots of things to worry about but most are absolutely fine kind of angle!

custardbear · 15/12/2022 21:02

... I should also say I cook with wine loads ... my kids have also had home made sauces with wine as well as packaged sauces - avoid unpasteurised stuff and wash fruit and veg. Follow your midwife advice but still try to enjoy life!

Don't worry – your body will always prioritise baby first, ensuring they get the needed vitamins, etc. (And a pasta bake is hardly terrible for you!) Enjoy and put your feet up.

Oh don't worry at all!
