Hi all ,
ive had what I’ve through was thrush for basically years. Symptoms burning , lots of discharge which can crust . Green discharge , general thrush symptoms . I am livid that it’s never been investigated further and only treated with thrush and I’ve been left to suffer . However now I’m pregnant I’m more livid and petrified about us both . I asked for a swab due to thrush treatments now working and guess what it’s negative ! But I’ve got STREP B ! Now I’m horrified and worried ahout maternal sepis and can’t stop crying . Midwives are very blaise and just said it’s good that we are aware fot labour. But what about my symptoms that indicate something . Feel like I’ve been left

I had it as well a pulmonary embolism during pregnancy, you will be fine as they give you antibiotics during labour .

OP, with all due respect are you getting any support with your mental health? Your anxiety isn’t “normal”.

Lolly127 · 13/12/2022 17:23

Yes I am thank you very bloody. I am under the peri natal team and have been open and honest with day one ! My midwife has just rang to check on me as she knows I will be in a state , people can not help being anxious it’s an illness !

I didn’t mean to cause offence at all. I’m sorry if it came across wrong.
I meant it from a genuine place, I’m glad you are getting that support.

Hey again all ,
So I feel like I’ve uti symptoms . Either that or it’s my vaginal issued playing up. So they did a dip test in the appt and all clear . They’ve sent it off and it’s come back so far WBC high but waiting for the rest of results . To me this indicates an Infection , however midwife said mine are barely raised and an infection would usually be in the 500 region . Attached result

It 6 above the top range of 0-40. Pregnancy may be a factor. If they are not worried, try not to stress out over this.

I know I’ve had week from hell. I’ve had the scare of strep , an ongoing Infection below that no one can actually find and diagnose . My car has now died and I went for a tour of the labour ward tonight and Jesus it’s terrified me

Are you sure the UTI symptoms aren't just from pregnancy? It does make you wee a lot and can feel slightly different from normal

Lolly127 · 16/12/2022 15:39

It could well be @bruisinghelp . I hope it is . I’m hydrated but it’s smelly , not overly but maybe it’s always been stronger but I’m just noticing now . 48 hours they got my urine but no full panel back yet regarding any bacteria Just the wbc cx

I think I’m more worried about the now too . I’ve got vagina infection symptoms but all that’s come back is STREP which they won’t treat till labour . Now I’m suffering with uncomfortable symptoms but also fear about becoming septic

I've had strep on and off in multiple pregnancies, it's something that comes and goes and I've never been treated for it, it goes away on its own. I really think your symptoms could be something else, Strep is really common..

BEO · 11/09/2023 19:01

@Lolly127 did you ever get to the bottom of your issues? Hope all is okay x

Lolly127 · 11/09/2023 19:11

I never did and I don’t think strep caused an issue . My daughter had antibiotics after birth though

So do you feel better now or are you still having issues?

Mrburnshound · 11/09/2023 19:26

Youll be fine

I had antibiotics at 35 weeks as it had got in my wee and i had terribble thrush.

When i gave birth there was no time for antibiotics so they kept us in for 1 or 2 nights and were very attentive x

29 weeks pregnant and I have the joy of joys of having simultaneous thrush and strep B!

It's not a problem for you to have it in your vagina. They'll test your urine - if it is also in your urine then they will treat as a systemic infection rather than local. It is incredibly incredibly common - 20-40% of women will have it transiently. It will come and go.

Chance of a problem for you are absolutely minimal if it isn't in your urine (they check it every time they take a sample, so every midwife appointment and scan). It's only really a problem for baby if they get it. To prevent this they give you IV antibiotics in labour or before your C-section. First line is penicillin (I am allergic like you so I have a different one written on my notes), but there are several other suitable antibiotics they can give in its place. These measures reduce the chance of infection in baby to below 1 in 5000.

You've done your bit, you fought to get tested and now they know you have it. There is nothing you can do, it's a transient infection and if they treated it now, it could very easily come back before you deliver. That's why they don't treat unless systemic. You've done what you needed to do. All you can do now is make sure your notes are up to date, they know which antibiotic they are going to give you and ask for it in labour.
