So I’ve got a copper coil had in for four months. I’m a few days late for my period ans my boobs have been hurting just wondering is it possible to get pregnant with the copper coil ?

Yes it’s possible but very very very rare. It’s highly unlikely you’re pregnant but if you’re concerned the best way to know for sure is to take a test.

No form of contraception is 100% affective.

Unless you're abstaining from sex.

Yes my aunt did. It happens more than you’d think

Il take a test over the weekend I just don’t feel right and quite worried as I’m adamant I want no more children.

Yes it is possible. Most of the time it’s because it’s fallen out though. Can you feel the threads? If the coil is still in and you are pregnant the risk of ectopic pregnancy is increased so please do a test and then if it is positive contact your GP or Early pregnancy unit to arrange a scan to rule out ectopic pregnancy

Yes it happens; there have been cases of a woman giving birth to a baby and the coil! Not common though.

Wait a bit and do a test, I hope you are reassured.

@MojoJojo71 yes I check for the threads and still there, i wonder if the coil can make your periods erratic?

Many babies are born with the coil embedded in the placenta !

My mum did, but that’s going back almost 30 years… not sure if it’s any more effective these days. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes. You can get pregnant with a coil.

The composition of a coil reduces the possibility of the sperm meeting the egg but doesn't stop it completely.

Its aim, through either copper (alters the pH) or hormones (thickens the mucus) is to reduced the possibility of sperm meeting the egg, it doesn't stop fertilisation if sperm meets egg.

It's second barrier is designed to interrupt implantation at varying stages depending on where the fertilised egg starts to implant.

Some early pregnancies progress further than others but intimately if the egg get fertilised the coil causes a very early miscarriage.

I don't think this is commonly known.
