I'm 17 weeks pregnant I'm not the best cook still learning, I cooked some chicken breast, there was no pink so I ate some but the meat was kind of rubbery which made me think it wasn't cooked properly now I have this feeling of impending doom, I will the chicken was completely white all the way through no pink it was just the texture I don't want to put my baby at risk can someone who cooks chicken often tell me if its OK or not?

Are you sure it wasn't woody? I stopped cooking chicken breast a while ago and use mini chicken fillets instead as I was fed up of getting woody chicken breasts. Its quite hard in texture. If it was cooked well then you will be fine.

White all the way through sounds absolutely fine.

It was probably that texture because it was overcooked . If you want to be sure about meat, get a meat thermometer and check the temperature at the thickest part. Google the recommended temps for each meat

@Blughbablugh I don't know what woody is? Is it woody if its hard to cut up when raw? I was cutting it and wondering why it was so hard to cut I diced it up as I attempted to make chicken hot pot, some was OK but alot was rubbery (but completely white) so I was really scared of food poisoning not for me but for my baby this is why I'm scared to cook chicken I gave it ago and failed 😅

It's a condition found in some breast meat. It's not harmful at all but makes for not nice texture. I noticed that I was getting a lot of it everytime I cooked breast meat and so stopped buying it. It could also be overcooked as someone mentioned up thread which can make it tough but of course perfectly safe to eat.

I got food poisoning when pregnant-it was from breaded chicken (which DH also ate and ate again as leftovers) I was very unwell for a time-ended up getting tested and had 2 different strains but baby was fine and is now a strapping 20 something. Think your chicken sounds fine!

I'm a vegetarian so no idea about chicken although it doesn't sound as if it were off exactly, just not very enjoyable to eat. But if you did get food poisoning generally it doesn't pose a risk to your baby bar some very specific strains such as listeria (don't think typically found in chicken). I got campylobacter during my last pregnancy and it was extremely unpleasant, D&V etc for days, consulted doctors after 5 days of D and testing found what it was. But baby completely fine and no lasting consequences at all. I think partly you hear about pregnancy in relation to food poisoning quite a lot because you're more likely to get it in pregnancy due to suppressed immune system but it's not something that automatically poses a risk to the baby.

We had a stomach bug when I was pregnant with DC2. Heaving so aggressively whilst so full of baby is truly and awful experience but didn't effect the baby.

Sounds like the chicken was overcooked if anything. I suspect the vast majority of the time a pregnant woman gets food poisoning the foetus/baby will be fine - it presents a risk of harm, but not a certainty of it.

I am literally going through this hell at 34 weeks, with 3yo to look after :(
