I’ve had thrush what seems like forever even prior to being pregnant . Follow all the cotton knickers etc . Get swabbed etc which have come back normal before now but even the nurse agreed it was evident I had it ! Anyway, I’ve had it pretty much all pregnancy and had two long courses of pessaries and cream with no avail . Had swabs last week but midwife ofd . Now I’ve got access to my results which read “ small number of pus cells seen “ now the stand in midwife said my results aren’t here . But is this not a result . Also getting dryness on and off this past two year but now I’m wondering what’s going on up there

I had the same problem pre pregnancy and remained ok until about 20 weeks when I had a couple of courses of antibiotics for UTI and it came back, I'm 32 weeks and still have it. My swabs show 'scanty amount candida', which they say probably isn't clinically significant but I have symptoms so want to treat it! I find clotrimazole the least effective for me, econazole works well but as soon as the long course finished symptoms come back. I have been given a fluconazole tablet which I was a bit worried about taking since I had these weekly for 3 months pre pregnancy and they said do not take in case of pregnancy, but the bumps website and GP have assured me in the third trimester it's ok as the risk of heart defects and miscarriage has passed. I've not collected it from the pharmacy yet however, but I found pre pregnancy the oral tablet was the only thing that cleared things up. I hope you get some answers, it's miserable isn't it and I'm worried I will have it during birth!

Thanks for your reply hon . Yes I’ve spoke to another midwife , I know I’ve got thrush . She said yet someone to get me an oral tablet but I’m bloody worried about causing damage . But the oral is the only cure for me . Pessaries aren’t doing it . It must be higher up

Have you tried a week or two of just cutting down on sugar in your diet?
I know everything has it in really but cut out anything that has a high content of it maybe?
This seemed to work for me after giving birth when I was having to deal with the (evil) thrush. repeatedly. That and cotton underwear and literally change underwear every day.

I have mostly cut down on chocolate and cake and biscuits solely due to thrush. Read about some kind of link betweeen sugar and thrush online. Do a quick Google and you will find it too i think.

Oh gosh, please do NOT listen to her regarding the oral tablet! You’re absolutely right to be worried about damage; it’s a known teratogenic and I’m shocked that she would recommend you take one.

Also have you been tested for gestational diabetes?

Lolly127 · 10/12/2022 10:24

Yea I’ve been checked via Urine at each appt and I had thrush before I was pregnant also , so it’s literally been on going and I just can’t shift it . No other diabetes symptoms that I am aware of . Literally just years of thrush On and off. Couldn’t take the oral pre pregnancy as I was on a med that can’t be taken alongside it . So it’s been pessaries and cream with no avail .

It depends when in pregnancy, it can be used with caution in later pregnancy, bumps is the recommended website to check medication use during pregnancy and this is what they say

Have a look at cytolytic vaginosis - almost the opposite of thrush, too much of the good bacteria rather than the bad yeasts!

Really upset today . Positive strep B but no thrush yet I’ve got symptoms . No one seems bothered now they know for labour but I’m worried I’m going to get sepsis
