Hi currently 38 weeks pregnant with second baby, I had a growth scan at 37 weeks and baby was measuring 7.13lbs I’ve been tested for diabetes twice and negative both times. I’m back for a scan tomorrow to check on size and then have an appointment with the consultant Thursday. If baby still measuring big they will want to induce me, however I’m yet to hear anything good about being induced just wondering if anyone has been induced and had a section what would you go for again?
first pregnancy and labour was fine no interventions was born 40+9 and weighed 7.4lbs
also if there’s any questions I should ask my consultant?
Thanks

I was induced (waters broke no contractions) but ended in emc because cord was wrapped round baby’s neck, I didn’t have any issues with the actual induction, about half an hour after contractions started and till that point everything was fine, section didn’t happen until I was well into active labour so I roughly would have given birth 6-7 hours after the induction if I could have done it naturally. Honestly I’d go with the induction I would have preferred a natural birth recovery is much easier x

Hello! If GD is negative and otherwise a low risk pregnancy, I'd be questioning their reasoning for induction based on big baby alone hard. It's not recommended by the NICE guidelines to interfere for a bigger baby if no other risk factors. I had similar, at 38 weeks baby measuring approx 8lbs4oz. They recommended induction at 40 weeks and offered c section when I declined. I declined that too! I did lots of reading. Our bodies do not usually grow babies that are too big for us and growth scans can be up to 20% innacurate. Also the risks they cite for a bigger baby eg shoulder dystocia are v rare and they are also increased with induction. My advice would be to do lots of reading, request to speak to people as senior as poss about the risks and benefits of everything including the actual things they're recommending not just going "over due". If it's your second baby this means even greater chance your labour will be totally fine, even if baby on the bigger side as your body knows what to do.

My DD was 8lbs8oz at 41+6 so nearly 4 weeks later. She was 59th percentile, not 95th as they were estimating. So the scan at38 weeks was clearly quite wrong!

I recommend Dr Sara Wickham if you google she has lots of info written about induction and big babies etc x

Thanks for your replies, latest scan baby was measuring 9lbs 1. Currently 39 weeks, had appointment with consultant and now booked in for a section

I had induction and then emcs so I would go straight to csection next time if induction was recommended. And alot of my friends who have been through induction have said the same! But it's a very personal choice

I was induced at 38 weeks with first and I have nothing but good things to say about my experience. I'm going to be induced on Monday with my second. Everyone's experience is different. I had the balloon which hurt the most out of all of it.

I would chose it over a section any day though due to the recovery time
