Water seems to make nausea worse

Due to hypersalvating I couldn't drink water for awhile, as the taste of water reminded me of the taste of saliva 🤢 today there was nothing to drink other than bottled water or tap water so I chose the bottled water, I drank some and it just isn't sitting right in my stomach, like it wants to come back up, I drank a can of cream soda today and really settled my stomach so much, carbonated drinks seem to sit better with me for some reason

Try sparking water? Maybe the flavoured ones?

Spockrates · 06/12/2022 16:40

@Ramble0n I don't like the taste of sparkling water I always thought I could taste a hint of salt for some reason

Try sparkling water, I didn't like it before pregnancy or even after but during morning sickness I went through a phase of loving it! Something about the bubbles was refreshing. Also, try ice cold water not just normal temperature water.

SiberFox · 06/12/2022 18:59

I couldn't drink pure water during 1st trimester but water + juice combination was okay, and like PP says - ice cold

Mrsjayy · 06/12/2022 19:10

Oh I remember it well Fizzy lemonade was my saviour first few weeks later on I could stomach fizzy water and orange squash.

Journeywithme23 · 06/12/2022 20:10

I’m in my first trimester and I’m finding this the same!
For some reason juice/cordial and peppermint tea are fine but water alone just makes me feel awful!

Barleysugar86 · 06/12/2022 20:12

Fruit ice lollies went down very well for me when pregnant- they also helped with the heartburn later on :)

Bunda · 06/12/2022 20:14

I had this.
Are you on medication? Drink whatever you can. Xxx

Lkydfju · 06/12/2022 20:17

At one point the only liquid I could stomach was full sugar lemonade which I just went with as i figured the main thing was to be hydrated

timotam · 06/12/2022 21:00

I'm struggling with this too! the only 'safe' drink for me at the moment is milk. Something about it soothes my stomach whereas everything else makes me feel worse, and it's weird as I never even used to drink milk. I've been drinking pints of it recently 😬

Spockrates · 08/12/2022 06:45

@timotam I'm lactose intolerant, so can't drink milk 🤣 seems to have gotten worse since being pregnant tho for example I use to be able to drink the yazoo milk shakes without any side affects, and I could also eat yogurts but ever since being pregnant they make me feel the same way milk does 🤣 you don't even wanna know what happens

@Lkydfju for me its an ice cold can of fizzy cream soda I am able to drink diluted drinks like Robinsons mixed with water (the other day I couldn't even drink that) but it doesn't settle my stomach the same way a fizzy drink does

I could only drink sparkling water during one pregnancy. I could manage hot chocolate during another, sounds odd but the thickness seemed to help!

merrymelodies · 08/12/2022 06:59

Keeping water in the fridge is really helpful to make it palatable, I found. Especially when nauseated.

MamaidhMathMath · 08/12/2022 07:47

I usually drink plain water throughout the day but at the moment I can only stomach squash. Similar reason to you, I think plain water reminds me of moment just before I throw up

JellyfishandShells · 08/12/2022 07:49

Dry ginger ale was my saviour - and has remained so for any nausea episodes since

Spockrates · 08/12/2022 10:06

@JellyfishandShells silly question but does ginger ale taste lime ginger? I only ask because I don't really like the taste of ginger but I'd like to try ginger ale cos I've seen so many people swear by it

  • I do like ginger so my judgement of the flavour might be different to yours. It’s not strong, not like crystallised ginger etc, but I think it’s a very mild taste. Ginger beer is definitely stronger.
