advice for my friend not me.

my friend messaged me saying her son had put a pack of tin foil trays in her oven she’d turned it on and the heat has melted the glue off of the trays (they’re brand new still sealed.) she’s quickly removed them from the oven but says her oven still smells of melting glue/plastic she’s also pregnant end of second trimester is it safe to still use it to cook food? She doesn’t think the plastic has melted into the oven just the glue off of the tinfoil trays that held them into a pack!

lol

What's "LOL" about it? Hardly funny.

I'm no expert but accidentally melted a plastic ikea plate in mine once which my husband put in there (don't know why...ruined a whole apple pie I was livid)

Anyway afterwards I chose not to use it because of the smell. Had an oven cleaning company come round and then I felt it was fine to use.

Unsureofitall · 04/12/2022 20:47

I would just give a really good clean done and use. Wouldn't even occur to be I wouldn't be able too.

It'll be fine. The possibility of some of the "glue" remaining on a foil tray is probably quite high, so the manufacturer/seller will have obligations to use safe materials. Therefore unless they're from Ali Baba or some other unregulated marketplace she'll be ok.

In her position I'd be worried too though. She could run the oven at max for an hour, opening the door every ten minutes to release any fumes till any odour has gone?

She’s cleaned it out with some hot soapy water and dried it and turned it on for half an hour now left with the door open but still skeptical about using it

Clean with bicarb and distilled vinegar. Great for getting rid of smells.
