what would you do - have a high risk multiple complications pregnancy. nothing life threatening but is making life quite miserable and i am on a lot of medication etc etc struggling to cope. been offered (no inbetween slots left btw but consultant said he’ll keep an eye out if anything pops up)

23rd december - 37+0 said there’s a 1 in 10 chance of baby needing respiratory help at this stage and also may not be home for christmas. wouldn’t usually care so much about this but i do feel bad that i’ll miss my toddlers last christmas as an only child (she’s 20 months so that’s stupid i know but still)

30th december - 38+0 less chance of respiratory problems with baby. won’t miss christmas but will have an extra week of dealing with the medical issues etc etc.

If you can manage I'd go after Xmas and get that extra week for the baby x

I'd go 38 weeks after Xmas. You will be missing the fun of Xmas if you deliver on the 23rd due to recovery anyway.

Moosh18 · 02/12/2022 10:22

If there is no risk to waiting that extra week o would wait and try and enjoy Xmas as much as you can,

I had both my daughters at 37 weeks exactly had steroids two days before each and had no issues with either and was home the next day x

No brainer for me - after Christmas

you will be home for Christmas and can just take it easy - and have a lower risk with baby’s health (1/10 aren’t great odds and respiratory issues can last a lifetime so why risk it for the sake of an additional uncomfortable week)

38 weeks (and I say this from experience, having had c sections at 36+6 and 38w).

ChickpeaPie · 02/12/2022 11:18

100% would choose 38 weeks over 37, there’s no way I’d have section at 37 weeks without steroids and they’re giving them less and less these days

ChickpeaPie · 02/12/2022 11:19

Have to say I’m very surprised that if the consultant is happy for you to go to 38 weeks that they’d offer you 37 weeks, as it’s much more risky for the baby

38 weeks. No brainer. Every day baby stays in at that point is important for lung development (and I speak from experience of CS after going into spontaneous labour at 37+6 and baby needing resus, CPAP and a stay in SCBU). I'm genuinely surprised you've been given 37+0 as an option.
