Hello. I'm just wondering if anyone has had a private scan and NHS scan within 2 weeks of each other. I've my NHS scan (reassurance scan at 7-8 weeks) on the 15th Dec and I called them to see if they had anything sooner but they said no. I'm quite anxious and then thought about doing a private scan next week for peace of mind (to rule out ectopic as had ectopic scare last time, which was then diagnosed as a miscarriage in the end), however I read that you can't do x2 scans unless they were at least 2 weeks apart.

In summary, just wondering whether anyone has had a private scan and then the next week NHS scan or vice versa? There would be about 10-11 days in between.

Thank you!

I had a private scan at 11+4 and nhs scan at 12+5, reason being I ended up measuring a week ahead (which I expected but midwife did not until I had the private scan) so nhs scan was brought forward. They weren't bothered when I mentioned it. Good luck for your scans

I had a private scan alongside a harmony test at 14w last Wednesday and then another when I was called in by the NHS midwives this Tuesday. I asked for a reassurance scan due to the circumstances (previously undiagnosed clotting disorder) and was given one. I mentioned to the consultant I’d had the scan six days before and she was completely nonplussed.

I’ve had an ectopic and was offered a reassurance/make-sure-it’s-in-the-right-place scan at six weeks in both pregnancies I’ve had since. I can completely understand your anxiety.

I think the main reason for having them 2 weeks apart is so that they can see there has been clear growth / progression

I had a NIPT scan at 10w6 days then my 12 week about a week later.

I’ve had two scans a week apart.
As long as your paying private will scan you as many times as you like 😊

Thanks all for your input. Yeh it's probably just to make sure there is enough progression. All I want to make sure is that the baby is growing in the right place really. I was about to pay for my private scan and then the notice came up. I've attached it. Then I was worried there was a medical reason why they couldn't do. The scans will be internal so then I thought that was the reason but might go ahead and book anyway. I don't think my anxiety can hold out until the 15th Dec 🙈

If you’re really concerned, why not call the EPU and get the NHS one set back a few days so you have a clear fortnight between the private and the NHS scans?

Mulner88 · 01/12/2022 15:44

@TheCraicDealer yeh I could do that, but I'm flying out of the country on the 18th for the Christmas holidays to see my family (pre arranged before I found out I was pregnant) and won't be back until the end of Dec so that would be too long to wait I think. I think that was another reason for the private scan. If baby wasn't growing where it should, I would have some time to get checked etc, as I remember the last time, I had to go back and forth to EPU over the space of a week to get bloods etc done.

@Mulner88 I’ve had external only, I have since 6 weeks and they’ve always been able to assess everything?

Mulner88 · 01/12/2022 20:32

@firsttimelondonmummy oh that's promising. I just assumed it was internal as my scans last pregnancy before MC were internal. I would much prefer external. Maybe I'll ask...
