So I went for my first scan today not expecting to see much just to check its in the right place. Didnt expect to be told i have a possible ectopic. After 5 mc's Im quite please with myself to get this far with no bleeding or no pain.

She told me (lady doing the scan) what looks like a pool of fluid is suspicious and could well be the preg sac developing on teh scar tissue which is another form of ectopic. Me being soft looked it up as soon as i got in and its very rare but life threatening!!!!

They took blood to check my HCG told my my endo lining is a healthy thickness to form a preg sac in so by monday it may well be in the right place they will scan me again then and take more bloods. If its life threatening why the hell are they leaving me 3 days ?? Has anyone ever heard of this or been through it?

She also said because my section is recent the pool of fluid is quite normal and the preg sac will appear in the next few days. I dont know what to think i keep jumping from being positive to kinda accepting its all over once again.

All ectopic pregnancies are potentially life threatening because you can go into shock and die from that. Have far advanced do you think the pregnancy is? You normally get symptoms though before you get to the danger stage and honestly the only reason people die through ectopics is because it takes so long to figure out what the problem is, the ovary bursts and causes sepsis before the docs work it out.

Sorry you are going through this.

sorry julez i cant help with advice, just wanted to bump it for you.

Good luck with it, i might go and see what, if anything i can find out.

Also, read this:

BACKGROUND: Caesarean scar ectopic pregnancy is associated with a number of significant complications. In this study, we report on subsequent reproductive outcomes in a group of women following successful treatment of their scar pregnancies.

METHODS: The study included those women who received treatment for their Caesarean scar pregnancies between April 1999 and October 2005. Their ability to conceive, the time it took to become pregnant and outcomes of subsequent pregnancies were all recorded.

RESULTS: 40 women with Caesarean scar pregnancies were managed in our unit. The uterus was conserved in 38/40 cases. Follow-up data were available in 29/38 (76%) of women. Twenty-four out of 29 (83%) attempted to become pregnant. Twenty-one out of 24 [88%, 95% confidence interval (CI): 75?100] women conceived spontaneously. Twenty out of 21 (95%, 95% CI: 86?100) pregnancies were intrauterine and one woman (5%, 95% CI: 0?14) had a recurrent scar ectopic. Thirteen out of 20 (65%, 95% CI: 44?86) intrauterine pregnancies appeared normal. Nine out of 13 (69%) were delivered by Caesarean section. Seven out of 20 (35%, 95% CI: 14?56) intrauterine pregnancies ended in spontaneous abortions.

CONCLUSIONS: Our study shows that reproductive outcomes following treatment of caesarean scar ectopic pregnancies are favourable. The risk of complications including recurrent scar implantation appears to be low.

So basically the sonographer isn't sure what she saw and they are rescanning you? Well surely that's better than 'it's ectopic, you need surgery and no baby for you my dear?'

Sounds like they have just given you a really early scan. I had one at the same time and they couldn't see heartbeats or anything much, and I was really worried but it was fine a few weeks later.

AitchTwoOh · 31/01/2008 20:34

i've had two ectopics julez, so i know a wee bit. basically like whomoved says, all ectopics are life-threatening, in that if your tube bursts you can bleed to death. normally that happens to people who didn't know they were pregnant, tbh, so it's not likely.

all they've said at the moment is that there is a pool of blood which is consistent with BOTH having an ectopic and having had a Caesarean, is that right?

so as i understand it they're really taking things cautiously, you see, by scanning you again in a few days. you don't want them to act quickly, Julez, you want that baby so much if it's in the right place but just not visible at the moment because it's so early.

did they take bloods to test for hcg levels as well today? that can be a good indicator of how things are progressing.

oh i'm so sorry you're in this horrible bit, i do know what it's like, and i've had the bad news and the good news (dd looked like a textbook ep, rather terrifyingly) so all we can do is wish for this bit to be over for you soon.

any bleeding or particularly pain in your shoulder tip, make sure you call the doc immediately.

Julezboo · 31/01/2008 20:40

thanks

Aitch - i was in a bit of a panic when i posted OP Calmed down a bit now and checked my diary and my LMP date was 30th jan, so exactly 4 weeks today so my hope has jumped right up and im thinking it was too early.

they did take HCG will ring tomorrow for results xxx

the important thing is that they are serial tests, conducted every two days (although maddeningly it's not uncommon for docs not to know that). so you need another set taken the day after tomorrow and another after that, so you can see a pattern emerge. if you have an hcg over 1000 then you would expect to see something in the womb, but if you're only four weeks then you might be miles away from that today. i do hope everything works out, it's so shit when it's all up in the air. think welcoming thoughts, start loving the baby now and encourage it to be in the right place... it can't hurt can it?

Julezboo · 31/01/2008 20:55

thankyou so much Aitch, i know all about HCG had them done before had 5mc's before so tbh after my metltdown on monday when i did fin out i was preg ive actually gotten used to the idea but we went today "not excited" cos we have had so many cans where we've come away in tears.

But DS is only turning one next month so we know we can do it
