Hi, so I'm in the Cheshire area and just found out I'm pregnant after a year of trying yayy!!

Problem: I rang my GP to understand next steps and she gave me a number to make an appointment and I rang it and the first question she asked me was do you want to have your baby at this hospital?
I was a bit shocked because honestly I've only been in the area a year and I have no idea how to make that decision or which hospitals have maternity units? Is this a normal experience?
How did people decide where they wanted to go?

Should I ring my GP again and ask to speak to them?

Thank you for your help, I was really happy but now I feel really overwhelmed and im looking for support!

I never spoke to my GP about pregnancy whatever tour nha trust is there should be maternity services, find the website and usually fill out a form to self refer and then the midwives will contact you

The number you were given would have been a booking in number for a particular hospital so it's a normal question! They can only book you in if you want to have your maternity care from that hospital.

Have a look at the maternity options in your area and pick one, then give them a ring. You'll need to do it soon as the first midwife booking appointment is around 8 weeks pregnant and that's all organised by the hospital/midwife team that you contact.

@ancienthouse @Youcancallmeirrelevant thank you so much for the reassurance! I hate not knowing what I'm supposed to be doing! I'll figure it all out tonight on the website with your advice!

@Justfoundout31 I had a choice of a few hospitals and I picked based on whether it had a midwife led unit (birth centre), how long it would take to get there in labour, and the neonatal facilities it had in case anything went wrong.

Congratulations on your pregnancy and good luck figuring it all out! Hospital maternity websites are generally very helpful and some even have video tours of the birth centres etc
