Yikes, I have felt really sick most of the day. I actually felt fine this morning, then when it got to lunch time, I wandered around Tesco looking for something nice for lunch and almost left empty handed. I still feel sick, why do they call it morning sickness?

Yup, sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I was nauseous from the moment that I woke up til the time I fell asleep from about 6 weeks until 4.5 months pg. It started to subside at 4 mths. It is different for everyone though. I never vomited but I felt hideous all day long - used to stick my toothbrush down my throat just to gag which relieved the symptoms for about 3 minutes.

I think it is called morning sickness because alot of people feel that the nausea is worst in the morning, or wake up and vomit and then feel better, but some people only get it in the evenings and some unlucky folk get it all day long - hope that you are not one of them!

DaphneHarvey · 31/01/2008 17:13

My nausea started at about midday and carried on for the rest of the day until bedtime. Morning was the only time I felt alright. This went on for the duration of both of my pregnancies (a girl and a boy). God I remember those supermarket trips, wandering around thinking I should eat, there must be something I fancy, and then coming out with a packet of ginger biscuits and summer fruits squash. Feeling for you ...

mum2bagain · 31/01/2008 17:14

Thanks. I'm 6 weeks pg. I have to go for a another scan on Monday because after my scan this week (after abdominal pains) was only showing that I was 5 weeks. So fingers crossed, this little thing will be showing a heart beat. I'm certain of my dates too and date of conception. Is this normal for it not to develop as quickly as others at such an early stage. Sac was only 7mm and should be 15mm by week 6.

It can be 24 hr sickness - mine was.

Good luck with your scan.

DaphneHarvey · 31/01/2008 17:27

The one good thing about morning sickness - it is a sign of lots of pregnancy hormones which help keep the pg going.

Good luck with the scan.

I read somewhere it should actually be called progesterone poisoning. Certainly can feel like the little b*gger is trying to kill you. But TBH it is very reassuring having a constant sign that everything is ok, I would have been a headcase worrying if I didn't get it.

mum2bagain · 31/01/2008 17:37

THanks everyone. I have 3 wonderful boys already and don't remember feeling this sick with either of them. Like you say, I suppose its a good thing....

Mum2 - they do say morning sickness more common with girls than boys ...

BroccoliSpears · 31/01/2008 18:47

Oh definitely. With pg1 I was just sick all the time, but my first trimester this time I definitely had evening sickness.

I always had in the evening

Pidge · 31/01/2008 21:04

It makes me absolutely MAD that it's called 'morning' sickness - it's like some kind of cruel joke. I really didn't realise till my first pregnancy that it could be 24 hours a day. It was absolutely relentless - I would even wake at 2am thinking I'm going to be sick.

Am feeling particularly sensitive, as I'm about 5 weeks with number 3 and getting that awful 'slightly seasick' feeling that comes before the real thing kicks in.

Maybe we should mount a campaign to get it renamed!!

misdee · 31/01/2008 21:11

it should be renamed yes.

been pregnant 3 times. everytime i had sickness morning noon and night. used to wake i nthe night to be sick. i hated it. dont think i could do it again.

ja9 · 31/01/2008 21:14

yes! i also thoght it should be renamed.

sympathies...

.. but as has been said, it's a sign that things are well with the pg.

gillythekid · 01/02/2008 14:53

I rarely feel sick in the morning but am retching by late afternoon, still at almost 17 weeks!! It's no fun at all really is it? Might punch the next person who tells me I should be enjoying my pregnancy!

Botbot · 01/02/2008 15:23

Mine started around 3 in the afternoon and reached a crescendo at 9pm, then gradually ebbed away before bedtime.

mylittlepudding · 01/02/2008 15:30

'Morning' sickness is a good sign - hyperemesis much less so though. Make sure you seek medical help if you can't keep anything down.

Merryoncemore · 01/02/2008 15:33

mylittlepudding - hyperemesis? Sorry to be so dumb!

mylittlepudding · 01/02/2008 15:40

The 'excessive vomiting' that is leads to weight loss and dehydration and hospitalisation and... all that stuff. OP sounds a way from it just now, but many suffer on in silence thinking it is "normal" when it's not.

bubblagirl · 01/02/2008 15:50

i had all day sickness every day for months i sympaphise with you but yes if you really struggle to keep thimgs down do go to doctor

mum2bagain · 03/02/2008 14:30

Is turned into all day sickness now. Not actually vomited, but man I wish it would disappear for a few hours...

missvicki · 03/02/2008 20:51

100% sympathesize!
Have had morning sickness 24/7 since the day i found out i was pregnant, was really bad for the first 14 weeks, couldn't do a thing and had to have time off work!!! It then got a little better and was only ill in the morning but now at 27 weeks it seems to be back again. Said to my mum tonight this pregnancy seems to be the best diet i have ever been on!!!!!!

Sycamoretree · 03/02/2008 21:07

Vommed morning noon and night with both pregnancies from week 6 to week 21....sorry to be bearer of bad news

Hulababy · 03/02/2008 21:11

Yes, I felt nauseous all day from waking up until bedtime. I was physically sick any tome during the day, sometimes just the once, other day lots. Was great fun when I was at school teaching classes - was so glad the teacher's toilets were only two doors away! The pupils got used to it, lol! My recommendation for sickness is to NOT go to the Carribean in the summer with it in full force - that was probably my worst holiday ever as a result of the heat and sickness combined

Hulababy · 03/02/2008 21:12

Oh and mione started at 4 weeks but did finish at about 4 months or so.
