No I didn't find any of my scans painful. Internal ones were a little uncomfortable when checking ovaries but no pain with the external ones. We did have one scan where baby was in an awkward position and they did have to press down a bit to get a decent image but I wouldn't say I was sore during and certainly didn't feel anything afterwards. If it felt wrong to you then I think you'd be within your rights to ring and make a complaint or enquire about it.

No, that doesn’t seem right to me. My scans were painless. I had a lot of them.

I didn’t ever feel pain during any of my scans but for my early ones they did use a lot of pressure and it was quite uncomfortable. I had an upset tummy after one which I’m sure was due to the pressure. Do you have a high BMI?

I'm tail thin and always feel them very painfully if they push for some reason. They've always (unfortunately) said it's fine if it's sore.

It’s not supposed to hurt but I had a trainee on my 12 week scan and it was painful at the time, then I felt bruised for days after. Had 2 scans after that which were both completely painless. Hope you are feeling les sore soon!

@Cw112 yes the baby was laying so awkward the babies back was to us so all we cos see was the babys back, back of head, and cute little butt cheeks, so maybe that's why they pressed hard

I had a few scans on my first son which were done by a consultant (one of the best in our area ) & I was sore after them, she did apologize for pushing so hard but it was needed for visibility, I had her as my consultant on baby 2 so knew what to expect, she scanned me a lot as I was considered high risk 🤰

It sounds as though you're bruised from your scan. Although it'll be sore, rest assured that your baby is well protected on your womb.

If you're a bit overweight, the sonographer will press harder because the sound waves are absorbed by your tissue and that makes it difficult to get any details on the scan image.

Your next scan (anomaly) 20weeks? should be slightly easier simply because the baby will be larger. Going with a full bladder also helps push the womb into a better position.

I was quite tender and sore after my 1st 20 week scan. I thought it was normal until I had another this pregnancy which didn't hurt. Sometimes the baby is in an awkward position or sometimes the person scanning is heavy handed unfortunately. Thankfully no harm was done by the scan other than feeling sore due a few days but if you're worried your can speak with your midwife.

@SmileyClare the baby was in a very awkward position, but when the 2nd person scanned me to confirm the gender they did it very gentle and u could see the baby exactly the same as when the 1st person was doing it so unsure if they needed to do it as hard as they did I was just worried because the scan went on quite long because the baby was being so awkward and they said they couldn't do it much longer because it's not good for the baby which made me think all the pushing with the scan thingy would damage the baby? Idk it made me worried when I felt bruised later than night still feel bruised today

Sonographers do sometimes push down surprisingly hard to get the image they want. It sounds like yours was perhaps a little heavy handed! But please don't worry that it has damaged your baby. They are well protected by the amniotic fluid and uterus.

I hope this uncomfortable experience hasn't put you off your next scan (20wk anomaly) as that is an important medical screening.

Ultrasounds are generally easier the bigger the baby is and less pressure is usually required. Fingers crossed your baby has turned around by then x
