Hyperemesis

Hi, I'm at abit of a loose end really. I'm 9 weeks pregnant with baby number 2, doctors have said I've got hyperemesis, they gave me a anti sickness tablet which I tried and they didn't work, so they gave me another one which I've been taking for 2 weeks, also not working. I'm being sick roughly 20 times a day. Everything I eat and drink is coming up no matter how big or small. I had hyperemesis with my little girl too but no where near this bad. It's been since I turned 5 weeks. It's getting worse the further I get, it's at the point now where I'm literally bed bound, every time I sit up I'm projectile vomiting and I go really dizzy. I've got no life left in me. I spoke to the doctors who told me to go to A&E, I live over 30 mins from a hospital me and my partner don't drive, I have no family to take me, I rang A&E to see how long the wait time is to be told there's a wait time of 2 DAYS!! I rang 111 who also told me to go A&E with my anxiety and with how bad im being sick I genuinely can't go and sit up there 2 days... I can't keep anything down at all and it's draining the life out of me I've been in tears for the past few days. Is it worth ringing an ambulance or will they not do anything? It's gotten that bad I've considered a termination even tho it took us 2.5 years of trying to conceive this baby😭 all my pregnancys are high risk anyway due to 7 previous miscarriages.... I just need someone to help me I genuinely feel like I'm dying.... sorry for the rant

Lie down, breathe, stay there, you're going to be okay. It's tough I know but it will pass and you'll glad you held on. Drink what you can, eat little bits - don't worry if you can't do that. Distract yourself with TV, remind yourself constantly it's only temporary xx

You poor thing, my heart goes out to you. It does seem never ending and so, so wearing, like a block of concrete sitting on you. At one point I told myself, it's only 9 months and all will be well rather than desperately wondering what week it would pass in. It didn't take the 9 months but still the mindset helped me.
Also, from a HCG point of view it's at its highest weeks 9 - 11 and by week 15 it drops to 50% of what it was at its peak so there's a chance you're in the worst now and it will improve at some point.
Definitely just keep resting as then your body is only having to grow the baby and not grow the baby plus do x, y and z. I know that's all you're able for at the moment but if it does improve keep remembering to rest to try help keep it at bay.
Have you tried sucky sweets? Minty ones? Anything with ginger? Dry cereal?
There's also acupressure points for nausea you could hold, it might make a difference..
Trying to think outside the box here!

You need a consultant referral and a drug called Ondansetron. Get your midwife to refer you to a consultant for HG and do not accept no for an answer. Anyone who tries to give advice that hasn't suffered wit h this condition or works with it is giving bad advice.

No amount of waiting for it to pass will help you and you absolutely do not need to suffer. Get your DP to fight this for you if you are too weak.

You need that referral or go to A&E and let them admit you to the ward when they see how dehydrated you are you will definitely have ketones in your urine due to lack of food and drink. Once admitted push the consultant for the ondansetron- it's a wonder drug and massively helped me by the time I had my 4th pregnancy. I really had to fight for it though.

There was a thread on here for Hg when I was pregnant and it really helped. Good luck. I really feel your pain - it's really awful and nothing like normal morning sickness

sisuyo · 26/11/2022 23:10

Oh and none of the usual morning sickness cures will work for HG, none of it. I'm really sorry you're going through this

Hi I’m also 9 weeks and suffering I have been admitted twice for IV fluids I’m currently in bed trying to psych myself up to try toast for the first time this month, do you not have an EPU at your local hospital or a maternity assessment unit I went in through those both times with no A&E wait. IV fluids did help and it’s important you get them if you are dehydrated feel free to message me if you need to your not alone I really do feel your pain.

Gh12345 · 23/03/2023 14:45

You don’t need to go to a&e if your hospital has a pregnancy assessment unit. They will measure ketones etc and probably get you on a drip.

Gh12345 · 23/03/2023 14:47

I just want to add that please don’t sit and try and cope through it, I did the same thing and ended up with a kidney infection from being so dehydrated and also electrolytes. Please take care of yourself - it sounds like you desperately need an IV drip

Gh12345 · 23/03/2023 14:48

Just realised I commented on an older thread! Hope you’re better now OP! X

Realise this is an old thread but I hope you're ok @TryingForBaby2

I had hg with ds and he was born really small (6lbs @39 weeks) I only gained 1/2 stone when I was pregnant with him so ask for growth scans from 28/30 weeks.

Oh mama, I also wanted to terminate my much tried for baby due to HG, I'm grateful every day I didn't.

I'm on my 4th hg pregancy and I'm going to suggest this is what you ask for, your GP may say no so you'll need to try with your early pregnancy unit.

Omeprazole 1 in the morning
3 x ondansetron a day + stool softeners to be taken, I recommend 2 x dulcoease or you're getting piles.
3 x cyclizine a day
Prednisolone (steroids) ask for 40 mg which is 8 tablets to be taken in the morning with some food, early in the morning, after your other meds so they've a chance of staying down.
Reduce steroids by 10mg per week.
If you need to have them given IV until you can keep them down. Plus the fluids will make you feel less like death.

I'm an HG write off for the whole 9 months and the recovery is shocking, the muscle waste, teeth, skin, hair & nails. The depression food issues etc, it's tough but as cliche as this is... your baby is worth it.

Please seek help and fight for this.
I'm bedridden myself with HG atm but if you want to message me and have me ring your GP and be very assertive, I will.
I've done my HG dues over 17 years now and I've learnt as pregnant women, we're expected to just stfu and suffer silently.
I don't want that for you, OP x

Also - water and healthy food is a massive trigger for sickness for hg.
Full fat coke or sprite and French fries etc are very popular safe foods for many, (been in online hg groups for years) and if you have any craving, it's the time to try it!
