Hi I'm just wondering if every pregnant woman gets offered/asked to do the gestational diabetes test or it's only ones of a higher risk?

I've tried googling it but it doesn't really give me a definite answer

Depends on your personal risk factors & also where you are in the UK- many places have gone back to standard testing but some places are still doing Covid HbA1c. So there isn’t a definitive answer.

Where I am I believe it goes off any identified risks at your booking appointment, such as BMI and family history etc.
I was considered low risk, but at a growth scan at 30 weeks my baby had jumped from the 50th percentile to the 95th for her abdomen. I did the glucose test and I did have gestational diabetes, but it was only picked up really due to the growth scan.

It's really common now to be offered but not everyone is. I was offered due to family history of big babies and a few other factors. Is it something you're worried about? If you are speak to your midwife. I did it and did indeed have the dreaded gestational diabetes. One thing that made me feel better is that it's more to do with the hormones your placenta releases making you insulin resistant than anything to do with weight or diet etc which is why they now test much more often. It's also not that bad if you do have it, I get scanned every 3 wks which is nice and they'll try to manage it by diet first. I had to go on insulin eventually and even then the injecting was nowhere near as bad as I'd expected (I hate needles)
