So this is my 2nd time posting, first was about being a 41 and terrified of our surprise pregnancy. I had a lot of lovely replies and support which I really appreciated and they really helped.

Fast forward to my NT dating scan today. In a nutshell NT measurement is 7.9mm with fluid also around baby's head, chest and abdomen 💔 appointment with consultant in fetal medicine booked for tomorrow.

Anyone had a similar experience? Lady who booked me in was extremely kind, explained what will happen, another scan, CVS test, discuss options going forward 😔

Extremely nervous and slightly shell shocked. What are we facing ?

Xx

Bumping to see if anyone has any similar experiences?
At our follow up appointment cystic hygroma was confirmed with a bleak prognosis. 50% chance of chromosome abnormalities, 20% heart defect, clubbed feet, high risk of miscarriage. I turned down CVS and booked in for TFMR. Now I don't know if I'm doing the right thing. Hoping someone will see this and offer advice!

I don’t have any advice or experience but just wanted to say I am so sorry you’re going through this and offer a hand hold. Hopefully someone will come along with some experience and wise words for you.

Take a day at a time and be kind on yourself x

I’m so sorry this is happening for you - it must be a horrible shock and might not feel real for a while. We lost our first baby to TFMR due to severe congenital anomalies in Dec 2021. It is really hard but it will get better.

Our prognosis was very bleak but also not 100-% incompatible with life. It is the grey area and that tiny sliver of hope that makes it so hard to deal with. Ultimately we felt that even if our baby survived, his quality and length of life would be appalling and we wanted to save him from that pain. Nobody makes these decisions without feeling guilty somehow, even though it’s not your fault and it’s no choice at all.

Has someone given you ARC’s contact details? They have a great helpline and a forum you can join (you can only join post TFMR) and I found it very helpful.

Wishing you all the best.

Hi @Leaf86 I'm so sorry for your loss and that you too have been through this. It definitely is that grey area, the "what ifs". I've read a few positive outcome posts over the weekend and began to regret not accepting the CVS, but based on the diagnosis given, it seems the results would be positive for at least one type of abnormality.

We chosen to have genetic testing afterwards instead. Hoping this will give us answers but it takes longer than a CVS to come back, around 2-3 months.

I've heard of ARC but not given any details yet, hospital did offer bereavement services, next week once TFMR is complete. I will definitely look into ARC though, thank you.

Wishing you the best for the future xx

When I was pregnant last year my NT was 9.9. I had a CVS, detailed heart scans, I had evert test going. They couldn't find anything wrong.

My son passed away at 30 weeks pregnant (severe onset of hydrops around his organs, we were told to either have a C section there and then when i went in for a scan, but he would almost certainly have severe learning disabilities, or let him pass on his own, which he did a few days later). We went for full testing afterwards. It took 10 months for them to tell us he had severe noonans. If you can lol through any of my old posts I'm sure you'll see more about it.

It was heartbreaking. On reflection, we would have had. TFMR. We fell pregnant again 5 months later, and went in saying anything that didn't look normal,we would opt to TFMR as I couldn't go through it again. Luckily this pregnancy seems ok.

It's devastating what you are going through, and I'm so sorry.

Hi @emma1103 I'm so sorry to hear of your experience. What a devastatingly awful time you had 💔

Thank you for sharing your experience, you have made me realise I couldnt go through a similar experience. I also couldn't put my family through it or our 8 year old daughter.

Congratulations on your new pregnancy and I wish you lots of love and luck with your little one when they arrive ❤️ xxx

Hi @Lulabella22 so sorry you're going through this ❤️ we had similar at our 12 week scan, baby had severe hydrops - fluid under the skin of her tummy and also inside around her brain and lungs, and an nt measurement of around 8. We sadly had a tfmr as was advised she would not develop with all the fluid and would likely miscarry before my next scan. We had genetic testing after delivery and found out she had Turner's syndrome.

I joined the arc forum after which did help talking through with others that experienced similar. If you email them they will give you a login as it's a closed forum

Thinking of you x
