I’m having work done on the house currently, I’m having a PVA type of sealant done. (Unsure if it’s a solvent or not.) anyway recommendations on how long to stay away for? I’m currently in the third trimester and worried it will cause damage to baby if breathed in as it’s in our bedroom…
advice please anxiety is driving me nuts!

We've just had our entire upstairs done, I'm third trimester too and just wrapped up warm and left the windows open to help it dry out. If you're really worried is there another room you could sleep in or leave your bedroom window open that night?

I was just really concerned as I was told that solvents or fumes can cause stillbirth and it’s the last thing you want to hear when you’re pregnant! I was planning to stay at my family’s my partner was happy to stay here and open the windows every morning and close at night. Do you think two days would be enough? The builder said it’s a odourless PVA sealant (I’m only 21 so I’m unsure on all of this.)

Very unlikely to cause any harm.

Thank you - I did read on the NHS website that it could affect baby if solvents are used and unfortunately I think it may be a solvent

I would imagine it's safe enough I think pva based sealants are non toxic. Plus I think sustained inhalation causes a problem for example if you were a painter and were working with lead based paints or solvents daily. Nhs website is suggesting the risk is minimal.

Honestly wouldn't worry. Polyvinyl acetate isn't going to hurt a baby in third trimester.

Thank you all - I’m quite young and it’s been a stressful pregnancy I just want to be able to enjoy the next few weeks until baby is here!
ive not done any work in the house since being pregnant and when I was told about toxic fumes/solvents it did scare me!
I’ve agreed to stay at my parents for two days and allow the window to vent and also they suggested a dehumidifier also?

If you've just plastered (I'm assuming that's why you've sealed the walls) do not run a dehumidifier you'll crack your new plaster. You need to reduce your heating and try to let it dry as naturally as possible leaving the windows open for ventilation. We made this mistake in our nursery and had to fill lots of cracks but we learnt for the rest of the house and had no cracks there at all. We just went without heating for a week and opened all the windows.

So our next door neighbours roof had leaked into our property which has caused very minor damage so it’s being sealed until it can be repainted! I was suggested to have the dehumidifier on during the days to draw out the moisture! It’s a temporary fix until the room is redone!

Ahh OK yes this makes sense! Yeah in that case dehumidifier will do the job!!

Ah amazing thank you! This is all very new to me haha, will the sealant be okay with the dehumidifier also then?
