I was just wondering if anyone had any experiences of Stoke, New Cross (Wolverhampton) or Telford hospitals, for maternity care and giving birth please?
Good or bad!

These are our choices, as we’re right in the middle of all three so I was hoping for any experiences or opinions!

tia!! xx

No experience of the above listed ones, but i had my first daughter at russells hall (dudley) just down the road from new cross, and couldnt fault them. They were brilliant! Not sure if this is an option for you 🥰 My choices were Russells Hall or New Cross. xx

@i83 What's your due date? I am from Stoke-on-Trent, therefore will be giving birth at Royal Stoke in Jan/Feb and can update you then? I am under consultant care and have had no problems with them so far in 7 months, they've been really good x

I don’t have personal experience but a friend is an obs/gynae doctor at Telford and is really happy there. She’s worked at a number of hospitals and speaks very highly of Telford.

Telford maternity scandal

On just had my second daughter at Royal Stoke 11 weeks ago. The care was very good antenatally I had 15 scans in total as there was concerns over babies size and I always felt well cared for. During the actual labour the midwives were fantastic and I couldn't have asked for better care, I got rushed to theatre for manual placenta removal and everyone was so caring.
Postnatally I stayed in for 5 days due to suspected sepsis in my daughter and jaundice, luckily I had my own room, I got completely left alone apart from routine obs, which was ideal for me but as a first time mum I'd imagine it could cause some anxiousness.
Only bad thing was I was due to be induced on the 2nd sept and there was 23 outstanding inductions so we kept getting bumped down the list, the lack of communication was extremely frustrating from the hospital and I kept having to go back and forth for monitoring. Was eventually induced on the 4th and baby was born after an hour of gas and air. Overall I would recommend Stoke to everyone.

@20viona did you request for a private room or did you just get given one? I have asked about one and got told if there were any available i could ask but to guarantee one I'd have to pay £130 a night!! And partner wouldn't be able stay in the room with me, only when im in labour xx

@GetInLoserWereGoingShopping I hadn’t thought of Russell’s Hall to be honest. I’ll have a look how far away it is and maybe add it to the choices, thank you!

@maggiebun I’m due on 1st May and that would be absolutely brilliant of you, if you’re able to!! Thank you so much!!

@LeafHunter that’s really interesting to know. I wouldn’t expect a member of staff to be happy and fulfilled in their job, if they knew the service being given was very poor.
I think that’s a really positive reflection on Telford.

@GaladrielHiggins I do know of the scandals involving the Shropshire and Telford maternity services but I will read your link to find out more information, thank you. Part of me wondered… if they are under the spotlight, then maybe staff and the management are being extra vigilant?

Thank you for sharing your experience @20viona its really good to hear how people are actually finding it.

@maggiebun I have had a private room with both my daughters at Stoke postnatally without paying. Was on a bay of 4 beds for my pessary induction 3 years ago but it wasn't for long.
