Hi, I’m hoping to hear from any parents of children that have been diagnosed with a right aortic arch with mirror image. We have seen cardiologists for a heart scan at the John Radcliffe hospital today at 21 weeks after an anomaly was found at our 20 week scan. Our baby has been diagnosed today with a right aortic arch with a mirror image of the arteries which they said is fairly rare to see. They have also mentioned the link between digeorge syndrome and this defect, and in our case they said between 3-5% chance. it would be really good to hear from parents who have been through similiar. What was the rest of your pregnancy like, how did it go at birth, were there any complications that you weren’t expecting and has your baby gone on to lead a relatively normal life without too many struggles?

Hi OP! My mum’s neighbour’s son (now around 13/14) was born with this same exact diagnosis. They’re out in California and I remember how stressful and upsetting it was for the family. He had surgery just after birth and I apologise but I just don’t know any details of the surgery. Suffice to say, he’s had a totally normal happy, healthy childhood. I went home last year to visit and saw him shredding around on his bike. I know he’s monitored and they’ll always keep an eye on his heart. But he’s outdoorsy and active, healthy, happy as a lark, just a regular kid! Though I do know that he’s not to place too much stress on his heart, as in don’t become a marathon runner.

💐💐💐for you!
It’s an enormous hurdle to jump and you must be so frightened. But your little one will be in wonderful hands. ❤️
Have they discussed any plans post delivery?

Heya!!
I had the same diagnosis at our 20 week scan and completely crushed us!
We got referred to St. George’s in London - I did an amniocentesis as It could be linked to other ailments as you said.
Results came back clear and was a healthy little girl!
We had regular checks and scans and everything was always positive!
The midwife’s and doctors by what the scans were showing wasn’t concerned about having any special delivery and could proceed to what was in my birth plan or any special checks immediately after!
We got referred to royal Brompton in London at 6 months and everything was really positive!
As they are new scans yourself or I could have this condition and many many people and not even know it !
At St. George’s there was 2 pregnant women a week being referred there too for the same thing which I thought was reassuring.
My daughter is 13 months now and is absolutely perfect!
All the horrible signs we had to look out for if it was affecting her -we’ve had none of that!
Shes absolutely thriving and has always hit her mile stones way before she should , she’s such a happy smart toddler !
So hopefully she will be ok going forward too 🙏🏻
My friends daughter has the same and she’s 10 and never had a problem/ surgery .
Sprinkling positivity your way! It’s not all doom and gloom I promise !
keep me updated , here for any questions !
