HELP!! 37 weeks Negative PROM test - reduced fluids on scan

long story short! Recently woke up very damp/moist/wet, thought possible water breaking. Did a whole day of checking, smelling and investigating(!). Called labour ward, who said “if they’ve gone you’ll know” I explained last time they went at 36 weeks and I did not know! But they said not to worry and I’ll know.

Cut to today and MW sent me to DAU/MAU for a couple of reasons including this and reduced movement. They did the test and it came back negative, said possible thrush, although I know I haven’t got that as I have had it so much and all the fluid I experienced recently was clear and watery.

Had scan and deepest pool was measured at just over 6, but last week Monday it was measuring at nearly 9 (which is the lowest I’ve had so far before it was 11.9 etc).

so question is does over 2cm difference in a week seem a lot? Have they missed the fluid leaking? Should I request further investigation? any input/experience etc would be great!

Regardless of others experiences your not happy or reassured with their findings, for that reason alone I would push for more investigation or request and induction (in my opinion at your stage of pregnancy and if you think your experiencing reduced movements I would absolutely be pushing for increased monitoring and induction asap) it’s up to you though as I know lots of people like to avoid an induction if possible. I had an induction myself with my 3rd and it was absolutely fine and needed no other intervention.

The biggest bit of advice I can offer is to trust your gut and follow your instincts. Do not think you are being a nuisance or a bother, do not allow them to fob you off if you feel like that’s what’s happening. Stand you ground and push for what you need for you and the well-being of your baby.

Good luck! X

I have no medical knowledge on this but I think its ok to trust your gut and keep asking for more checks. I did have premature rupture of membranes and it led over 4 days to an infection which led to a variety of other complications. Keep pushing on this.

Thank you both, I am going to speak to them in the morning and ask that they look into it further. I am worried that even though the test was negative it was wrong??!

@Qweryy123 I'm in the exact same position. 37w and went to the hospital because my fluid s leaking. They did the speculum test and said that it wasn't. I'm almost certain it is my amniotic fluid. Had a scan 2 days ago afi went from 26cm to 16cm. Mind you I have had polyhydramnios since 20 weeks. Anyways she also said I have thrush. Which I didn't have a clue about. The heart rate is lower on the ctg too and something just doesn't feel right.
I'm going to go back tomorrow and in the meantime I'm wearing a pad just to monitor it. With my last pregnancy same thing happened but at 30 weeks and the midwives wouldn't believe me. Ended up with an infection and bleeding and no amniotic fluid at 31 weeks and a csec straight away.

@MadamMaltesers wow exactly the same! Do you think it is just luck if they manage to capture the fluid in the test at that exact moment? Also, with the thrush, I know I don’t have it because I am so used to having it and what they showed me was just white discharge but that’s not unusual after sitting around all day in hospital, for hours, and not having enough water etc in my opinion! Fingers crossed for you today, I hope it all goes well! I have consultant call today so going to pick their brains and say I need them to get involved!
