Growth scans wildly inaccurate?

Will be having my baby at 37 weeks instead of planned 39 weeks (ELCS) due to static growth. Estimated to be about 5lbs so have went and bought some tiny baby clothing, but my growth scan with DD1 was way off.

They said she was 7lbs4oz at 38+1 (50th centile) and she was born weighing 7lbs1oz at 41+1 (7th centile) - no noted issues with placenta/blood flow etc.

Only a few days to go until she's here but curious to know if anyone's been in a similar situation?

Grow scans are a series of 3 scans. Did you have all 3 scans? Mine were pretty spot on

HowBerryPeachy · 15/11/2022 21:40

@upfucked DD1 was emergency growth scan, just the one.

This baby I've had 3 growth scansz

I had all 3 growth scans with some extra ones to check blood flow and stuff and they were all measuring 50th centile. They predicted baby would be born around 8lb 8oz at 39 weeks as was having a section due to breech position. Baby was born at 38+6 weighing 10lb 15oz first baby no diabetes no big babies like that in family. I wouldn’t listen to them they are always wildly wrong.

@HowBerryPeachy im having growth scans every two weeks, but have seen a girl Helen twice for blood flow and things, I'm seeing her again tomorrow before my consultant she wants to do the scan as ahead said I have seen different consultants every time and it won't give an accurate reading cause everyone measures different so that's why she want to do it cause she will measure the same each time xx

HowBerryPeachy · 16/11/2022 08:26

@Flowerbug1994 wow that's quite a difference! I'll definitely take some newborn clothes in with me along with tiny baby then 😂

@Babyghirl yeah that's another thing, each person I've seen has been different but I know the main thing is to check how much they've grown since the previous scan rather than what they weigh overall. Each sonographer has agreed that it could be a case of each scan/person measuring too generously or too 'stingy' but the consultant agreed it's too risky to leave baby in any longer at this stage with signs of static growth.

I had a growth scan at 39+4 and it predicted my son would be 8lbs 5oz, and he was born at 40+2 weighing 7lbs 8oz

greenerfingers · 16/11/2022 08:36

Estimated 10lb at 40 weeks, was offered a section but refused. Born at 7.1oz

greenerfingers · 16/11/2022 08:37

Born at 39+6^. This time told baby is too small, sent for measuring and told baby is fine, next person told me baby is too big a week later. I just disregarded it in my case.

RunLolaRun102 · 16/11/2022 08:38

They base the measurements on femur length. DS was predicted to be an 8 pounder but was only 7 pounds - he was just incredibly long.

wibblewobbleball · 16/11/2022 09:11

With both my children growth scans have been very inaccurate. Both predicted to be 9.5lb by 40 weeks - first born was 7lb 4oz at 42 weeks, second 7lb 6oz at 39 weeks.?

HowBerryPeachy · 19/11/2022 01:35

Just an update the scans weren't too accurate. Baby born at 6lbs7oz on 20th centile.
