I'm currently on holiday in mauritius and not due to return for another week hence my call to all you experienced mumsnetters.

I'm 5+6 today and have had light brown spotting since 4+4. The spotting became light staining on 5+0 so went for a scan the next day. Bean measured right length for 5 weeks so the epu dr told me it was implantation bleeding and I'd be safe to fly off the next day.

At the airport I began to experience back ache and mild cramping which I put down to travel niggles, however they got more painful on the flight. More brown spotting. Have a small cry on the plane as it doesn't look good.

After 12 hour flight spotting seems to be easing up, get to hotel, first nights sleep is interrupted with waves of painful cramps and a small gush of brown blood. Wake up feeling Not Pregnant. although still have sore boobs.

Feel fine during day, then second night have backache and wake up to a small gush of red blood (no more than a teaspoon), convinced miscarriage has started. Wake up to find there's been no more fresh blood. Call my local epu to ask wether I need to go to a&e here in Mauritius despite not being in any more pain or not having any more red blood. Told that I can wait a few days, if bleeding or cramps get worse then to see a dr if not then its likely its not an mc.

Last night no cramps, but woke up to some brown spotting. Spotting very light throughout the day but noticing lots of 'bits' on tissue and in toilet after wee-ing.

This is my first pregnancy and I've never had a mc before. I was expecting it to be like a heavy period, is this to come or canl it just dribble out in tiny fragments for weeks on end?

Or is there any hope at all?

I'm not in any pain, don't have a fever and I'm not bleeding excessively so ive been told I can wait to return to UK for scan. In the meantime is there anyone out there who has had a similar mc or experience that has led to a healthy pg?

DG So so sorry to hear you are going through this, especially on holiday. You may not recognise me but I was lurking on the Sept '08 thread for a while. Unfortunately have just found out I've had a 2nd missed mc so won't be joining.
I was looking out for you especially because I was worried about the symptoms you were describing before you went away as they were so similar to my first mmc, especially the watery brown stuff. I didn't want to say anything as I knew you were due to be going on holiday so I figured there was no point. BUT the reason I'm saying it now, is this:
Your symptoms started way before your scan. That's why you had the scan. If it was a mmc you would NOT have measured right for your dates - although I didn't have a scan as close to my symptoms as you did the symptoms were from about 6 weeks and when I finally did have a scan it showed it had stopped developing at only about 4.5 weeks. That's not what's happened to you! And your chances of continuing to have a successful pg have GOT to be increased by having had a scan where you measured right for your dates, even one too early to show a heartbeat. I really honestly believe that you have every reason to be optimistic. And I wouldn't say that if I didn't mean it, this stuff is too important to mess around.
Good luck honey! Thinking of you and praying for a positive outcome for you. Such an awful thing to happen while you're away - especially as I suspect you must have been looking forward to your holiday for a long time. Sending {{hugs}} Kx

DG just wanted to pop in and say, along with all the other symptom spotters, that I'm thinking of you and have everything crossed that you're ok.

Take care of yourself xx

Hi digitalgirl, so sorry to hear you are going through this especially whilst on holiday. I've had 3 m/c. Two of them were slow (happened over a few weeks). In some the bleeding started off being brown but progressed to bright red. The common theme in all of them was pain (though not severe to begin with). I had brown/pink spotting with ds weeks 5-11 on and off and all was fine. I would say that it's positive that you don't have pain. Fingers crossed for you.

hello sorry for the absence, the weather here's not been too great (although still bloomin hot) and I lost the GPRS signal for a few days.

Well after posting on here the bleeding has slowed down. Cramps have gone and pg symptoms are back. Have even had a touch of ms the past couple of days! However ive not yet had a day of no bleeding, seems to be worse in the mornings then fine by the evenings.

Will be seeing a doctor tomorrow who will give me a fit to fly certificate and hopefully reassure me further. Am equally dreading yet desperate for the scan on Friday.

I have been feeling more hopeful, all your stories have been really helpful and put things in perspective. The only book I brought with me was 'what to expect...' which says to go to a dr with 3 or more days of spotting (which I did at the start) but doesn't say anything about two weeks or more being 'normal'...so i'm especially grateful to those of you who have posted their mc stories as a comparison to my experience so far. Its so horribly common and I know if the same happens to me I wont be alone. .

Sorry to hear about your mc kate, I hope its not too drawn out for you and that you take good care of yourself.

Thanks to all the ttc ladies who popped in...reminded me that despite what happens there will always be plenty of support

And I really hope I can come back to the sep thread once I get the ok at the scan at the end of the week! I feel like I'm ready to start sharing pukey stories!

bitofadramaqueen · 03/02/2008 13:39

Good luck for friday! No pain and no bleeding v good signs.

charitygirl · 03/02/2008 14:54

I'm so excited you look likely to be coming back to the Sept 08 thread. I've been lurking (and finally joined) and keeping my fingers crossed for you. If you've got ms that's such a good sign!

Lilypink · 03/02/2008 18:40

Glad things are looking better for you. I am still having spotting and have a 7 week scan on friday too! I will be thinking of you and hope to see you posting on the sept thread soon x

Sunshinemummy · 05/02/2008 11:07

Fingers crossed DG. Hope to see you later in the week on the Setpember thread.

ScaryHairy · 05/02/2008 19:36

Hi - I was just catching up with the other symptom spotters and someone mentioned you'd started this thread. I'm really glad that things are looking up now and hope you are not getting too stressed. For what it's worth, I once read that something like a third of women get some bleeding in their first trimester. I bled a bit later - at 16 weeks - when I was pregnant with my daughter and much as it shocked me at the time, she is now a stroppy toddler, so it must just have been one of those things.

Let us know how you're doing when you get home, and I hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday.

digitalgirl · 08/02/2008 10:31

Just thought I'd bring this thread to a close.

Had the scan this morning. Didn't feel as nervous as I thought I would...

It was all rather quick, turned up at the EPU, got called in to the Ultrasound room straightaway. Hopped on the table, they squirted the gel on, and within seconds he found it, 'There's a baby in there...and with a heartbeat'. Turned the screen to show me and I saw the little flickering dot!

I asked if he could see what had been causing the bleeding and he said 'no, and you've got a baby with a heartbeat so that's the most important thing. Don't worry about any bleeding.'

Measures 7+3, but he said it will be more accurate in a few weeks time at the dating scan.

So, now no more scans till after my booking in appointment!

Thanks everyone for holding my hand during the last couple of weeks...MN is truly a fabulous place for worried mums to be.

DG

Fantastic news Digital!!! . So wonderful you saw your baby! Hope you have a happy and relaxed rest of your pregnancy x

MyThumbsHaveGoneWeird · 01/05/2010 08:03

Hi digitalgirl, are you still around? I just found this thread on a search. I am having symptoms almost exactly as you described, and I am also abroad. It's been very reassuring to me to find this thread. I just wondered how everything went in the end for you?

GILLI79 · 01/05/2010 20:19

try not to worry easier said than done i know!, i had brown spotting and bits of tissue from 6 weeks till nearly 9 weeks was convinced it was all over and going to the loo evry five minutes just to check if there was anything there. i had a scan at 7 weeks and they said everything was fine bleeding brown blood is very common and can be from a number of things mainly hormonal and your cervix changing. i had it again at 10 weeks and paid for a private scan and everything was fine. i think it will just go away on its own in the meantime just relax and take it easy, if anythings going to happen you cant stop it but try just to think positive its alot more common just people dont talk about it xx
