Driving after c-section

Hey everyone

Quick question, how soon after your previous c-section did you drive? I’m trying to wait at least 4 weeks but the wait is agonising, spending so much on Ubers! I feel ok in myself, stitches only feel like they’re pulling if I’m walking too much

I didn't drive until at least six weeks after my first csection.

I drove 3 weeks after my second and I really shouldn't have. I felt fine beforehand but I was really sore the following day.

Gibshername · 15/11/2022 11:23

@GyaradosGranny thank you! They did actually tell me to wait at least 6 weeks but I don’t know how I can go another 3 weeks not driving :(

The guidance suggests not driving until you can emergency stop - but some insurers won't cover you until 6 weeks have passed, so definitely worth checking even if you feel well enough to drive

Gibshername · 15/11/2022 13:17

@Nejnej2 thanks so much

I didnt drive until I was comfortable to do an emergency stop and could walk to and from town (about a mile), there was confusion from my insurance company and they needed the gp to say yes before I could drive but the gp said its nothing to do with them haha

FTM2022SS · 15/11/2022 13:30

I didn't feel fit until about 7.5 weeks after but a midwife told me that you are not insured until a minimum of 6 weeks anyway!

Pumpkinpatchlookinggood · 15/11/2022 13:31

10 days - after my insurance company were happy I did...
Nobody told me how long to abstain!

gogohmm · 15/11/2022 16:17

Check your insurance, it used to be 6 weeks minimum!

ohfook · 15/11/2022 16:20

2 weeks. I was under the impression that I had to wait 6 weeks, but I rang my car insurance people (admiral I think) and they didn't have a time limit, they just said to use my own judgement.

sunflower198 · 15/11/2022 16:25

I felt ok to around the 4 week mark but my insurance company said I would not be insured unless I had a doctor to confirm it would be, trying to get an appt was not worth it so I just waited until 6 weeks!

FridayNightIsWineNight · 15/11/2022 16:29

Before my insurance would cover me I had to have a Drs recommendation/note to be fit to drive again. I got mine at 4 weeks.

ChessieDarling · 15/11/2022 16:33

I was driving by 2.5 weeks post C-section. I felt fine. I guess the main thing is to just be sure you feel completely capable and safe and could do an emergency stop if needed.

user95638291058391010184848592010101 · 15/11/2022 16:34

I was 5 weeks after my 1st and 8 weeks after my 2nd.

I could have driven earlier after my first but didn't really need to drive anywhere.

DoraChance · 15/11/2022 16:39

My insurance company said it was fine as soon as I felt able - there was no rule. Was probably about 3 weeks for me.

JudgementalCentipede · 15/11/2022 16:41

My insurance company just told me if I felt able to perform an emergency stop, then I'm fine to drive. So 10 days after my first C-section and 3 days after my second.

Garman · 15/11/2022 16:45

6 weeks after my first, 3 weeks after my second, 5 days after my third. Not ideal on the third but she was in NICU and I had to get there and get other kids to and from school. It was fine though.

Garman · 15/11/2022 16:46

And my insurance only needed a letter from gp if something had happened in terms of an accident in the car etc, gp gave me the letter when I requested it on the second baby but I didn’t look for it with the third, definitely wouldn’t have gotten it!

Grumpybutfunny · 15/11/2022 16:50

About a week but I have an automatic which makes it a lot easier. Insurance company weren't interested.

Floomobal · 15/11/2022 16:52

I had a csection earlier this year. My insurance didn’t cover me for driving before 6 weeks, unless I had a letter from a doctor confirming that I was ok to drive. So I waited 6 weeks

ChocoFudge · 15/11/2022 16:54

I drove at 3 weeks. Would happily have driven at 2 weeks but waited an extra week to be safe. I drive an automatic though, not sure how much extra stress changing gear might put on your scar?

Gibshername · 15/11/2022 18:17

Thank u so much everyone!! X

First about 6 weeks
Second about 3 months

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 15/11/2022 18:24

Waited 8 weeks till i was comfortable.

Tbf it was a good habit to break where i used to always get in the car for every journey. Now i walk pretty much everywhere within 2/3 mile radius still.

In the weeks i couldn't druve i walked, got the bus or had family srive me if i needed to go further.

megletthesecond · 15/11/2022 18:26

Wait until at least 6 weeks. Your health is more important than any money spent on Ubers.
Internal wounds take longer to heal than exterior.
