What can and can’t I eat at christmas?!

So pate and mulled wine are out of the question (making sure we have these once the baby is born!) but which cheeses do I need to avoid also?

Can I have the soft garlic cheese? Is Camembert a no go?

What about seafood - can I have prawns?

Ive never been pregnant at christmas before as I had a christmas baby!

Have what you like, I did. Be aware of the listeria risk with smoked salmon and weigh it up.

By the way, you could have a mulled wine. I don’t think it’s even alcoholic once it’s been warmed up!

just enjoy yourself. There’s barely anything you ‘can’t’ have. Stilton is fine. Prawns are fine. Cook Brie if you’re worried. But really, apart from pate I would chill on the rest.

Not sure which garlic cheese you mean (Boursin is fine, if that?).
Camembert is fine as long as it is baked until hot (essentially pasteurises it).
Prawns are fine.

This is the only list you need - www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/keeping-well/foods-to-avoid/

If you look on the NHS website it explains what food to avoid and why. But, yes, soft rind cheeses need to be avoided (unless cooked), prawns are ok.

Mulled wine makes me tipsy so I wouldn’t follow the advice above!

I absolutely love pate on crusty bread and mulled wine, one of my favourite christmas things!

great about the cheeses…thank you for the links!

It is recommended you don't ear soft cheeses etc but they are only recommendedations. Over 99% of pregnant people who eat them and their baby will be fine. Whether you want to risk being in the small percentage there is a problem is up to you.

If you want a small piece of pate on bread with a small glass of mulled wine on Christmas day I certainly wouldn't judge you! (I also don't judge people that follow all guidelines to the letter, it is personal choice).

We will do a baked Camembert. It’s fine as long as it’s cooked until piping hot throughout. We have bought some alcohol free mulled wine too. Cooked prawns are fine, smoked salmon is advised against but it’s your call. I’m not really bothered by it so I’ll just avoid it.
