I’m due on the 23rd July, and am also a teacher. We break up for the summer holidays on the 21st šŸ˜†

I am really pleased to be pregnant but the timing couldn’t be worse which is typical. So hoping to drag myself through to the end and then have a full 12 months off. I work three days a week so will actually break up on the 19th, not that this helps much!

sorry, no I didn't! aimed to work until 8 months 2 weeks, but had to leave 3 weeks earlier in the end

JustBkind · 14/11/2022 06:41

I worked up to two weeks before. My first arrived two days early! My second was 9 days late! You just never know…. Good luck with everything!

Soontobe60 · 14/11/2022 06:41

Most of my teacher colleagues have worked up to their due date.

rainbowandglitter · 14/11/2022 06:44

I worked until 3 days before.

Quail15 · 14/11/2022 06:44

I worked up until a week before my due date (I work in a hospital). Baby was born 5 days early.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 14/11/2022 06:45

With my first I worked until 3 weeks before- I could have managed more but it was the London commute and needing to wee all the time that killed it for me.
number 2 covid wfh so I worked until a week before.
if a close commute and you drive then it may be possible.
everyone’s pregnancy, like newborns, are different.

Poppins2016 · 14/11/2022 06:47

I worked until a couple of days before with both of my babies. I had straightforward pregnancies and was reasonably comfortable. I'd do it again if I had another.

reallydoyouthinkso · 14/11/2022 06:48

I did but all mine are late and this was number 3 and I figured he’d also be late. And he was! So my final day in work was my due date. Very tiring though especially with a commute.

I was self employed and had a hotel. I worked up to labour starting . I realised it was time to go to hospital when I couldn’t bend to pick something up ! My guests waited up in the bar to hear the outcome and even ran a sweep on the baby’s sex and weight. But I had cover on standby and I guess it will not be as easy in school if baby comes early. Good luck x

muddlingthrou · 14/11/2022 06:49

Maternity leave was due to start at 38 weeks, baby came at 37+5.

Perfect28 · 14/11/2022 06:50

I don't really see what difference it makes, stop when you need to. You won't be able to predict how you will feel then and it won't make a difference with the summer break so go with the flow.

glamourousindierockandroll · 14/11/2022 06:51

I'm a teacher. My due daye was late July and I went into labour whilst at work at 38 weeks.

Thefallingleaf · 14/11/2022 06:51

Thanks! My first had to be induced due to my age but I think I’ll ask for an elective section this time; don’t want go through that again!

Yes. Worked until the Friday (Mon-Fri office job), baby came on Sunday.

Thefallingleaf · 14/11/2022 06:54

It makes a difference the following year @Perfect28 , could probably save childcare costs until September 2024 if I can drag myself to the end.

Also a teacher, I worked up until my due date last summer! It wasn’t too bad, but everything was straightforward for me. Just keep thinking of the extra time you’ll have with your tiny squishy little baby the other side - much better than waiting about the house on your own!

Nonimai · 14/11/2022 06:57

My son was 2 weeks late. I was due to be induced on the Wednesday. I finished work on the tues afternoon as normal. I gave birth on the Friday. 2nd child. I was an office manager. I had no choice but to work. I couldn’t afford not to. Single mum.

Proamble · 14/11/2022 06:59

i had mine on my first day of Mat leave!

Autumn231 · 14/11/2022 07:02

If you’re asking for an elective c section I would think they’d want you in at 39 weeks

TwitTw00 · 14/11/2022 07:04

Twice, teaching lower key stage 2. Both times had a weekend off and gave birth after that. Had a long commute too. Honestly I'd try and go for it, because you can always just go off earlier if you can't manage. Summer term is a good time as a teacher to do a bit less too.

RE childcare, I had to go back before the summer but cobbled together childcare with my husband and parents (who live 300 miles away) so that I didn't need to pay for nursery til the September, but obviously got paid over the 6 weeks (just like many non teachers tack on annual leave to their mat leave before threre is a pile on!).

stripeysocks2 · 14/11/2022 07:04

I worked until 1 week before but baby arrived 4 days early, so only 3 days after finishing work.

Yes it's usually around the 39 week mark for an elective.

princessrapunzel · 14/11/2022 07:07

Im having a elective c section and they want me in at 39+1 for it so mat leave is starting at 38. I am struggling with tiredness but im like you and am part time so sleeping as much as i can on my days off. Itl all depend on when they book you in as you dont have a say

wishuponastar1988 · 14/11/2022 07:07

I worked until 1st august and my due date was 7th august. I went into Labour on the 6th and gave birth just after midnight on the 7th!

RuthW · 14/11/2022 07:09

You will be fine. Just be prepared to go off at short notice. My dd was three weeks early. I was at work two hours before my waters broke.
