Pregnancy of unknown location

Hi, I had a positive test early October, a few days later I started to bleed with small clots and my tests were going lighter so assumed mc and that was was

Have been feeling a bit sicky and having stitch like pain when coughing / sneezing so took another test last week which was positive, I should have been around the 8 week mark and weeks indicator said 1-2. Retested in the AM as had drank lots and went up to 2-3

Had a scan on Friday and they could not find the pregnancy but could see hemorrhagic cysts on both ovaries. Noted as pregnancy of unknown location and booked in for mid next week for test at the hospital

I'm so confused, I would expect they would have been able to locate as I should over over 9 weeks now! I've got a trip booked end of the month and I'm so worried this won't be resolved before then and I will need to mis this

Does anyone have any experience of how they deal with this at the hospital? Am I likely to be scanned or just blood test? I'm so confused

@Proamble thank you for replying. I know why they need to take the time to really check but I just wish it was quicker!!

Hello! Sounds like you're going through something similar to me - although I'm only 6 weeks (ish). HCG was 360 on weds and 390 yesterday, some pain in my side. They are thinking probably tiny ectopic which will hopefully resolve itself, or early miscarriage. Just wanted to say I understand how crap the waiting is, it made me very anxious. They did more bloods at hospital yesterday so waiting to hear this morning if HCG has gone up or down.

Hope you're hanging in there and you have some answers soon.

okisthisright · 19/11/2022 10:40

Thanks @Billyv results have come back at 180 so only a 10% drop which isn't good 😔

OP posts:
Billyv · 19/11/2022 13:31

No. At least it must be tiny though. That's what I'm thinking with mine - if it's still there. I have more blood tests tomorrow.

One thing they told me is that if your HCG is below 1000, then it is impossible to see the embryo on a scan. I found that reassuring in a way, because it also means it's too small to rupture anything.

Have they said what the plan is for you yet? Sorry if you have already mentioned, are you still bleeding?

Mine is bloods tomorrow and then a scan on Wednesday just to check for bleeding in the abdomen. But presumably they would have looked for that on the scan you already had.

okisthisright · 19/11/2022 13:57

@Billyv that's a good way of thinking about it thank you!! No I've not bled since early October when I thought I'd miscarried and no plan yet they've said we'll discuss options once the next set of bloods come back

Sorry you are going through this, it's an awful time.

My daughter had a PUL, she'd had an early scan at 5 weeks when we were told the news. 48-hour blood tests and 2 more scans over the course of the next week, none of which showed the results we hoped for. For one of the scans she was sent from the EPU to the maternity unit and had to sit in a waiting room full of very far along ladies all coming out beaming with their scan photos - that was hard.

We were told we could either wait for nature to take its course or have the injection. She started bleeding at 8 weeks and miscarried on the day she was due to have the injection.

I'm sorry that this isn't what you want to hear. I have seen other threads on here where PULs at 5/6 weeks have resulted in healthy pregnancies. Flowers

okisthisright · 19/11/2022 14:20

@imSatanhonest I should be over 10 weeks now so I know it's not a viable pregnancy it's just a waiting game now. Looks like I'm going to miss out on my daughters special trip so that's a shame 😔

When is the trip? Can you ask for the injections now?

oddly I’ve just been sent a follow up appointment for February!! I’m over 3 months passed the injections! It was an in person appointment, but then got changed to a phone one a week later (I’ve been away so I got both letters together). Not sure what they need to tell me that wasn’t covered in the brochures?!

okisthisright · 20/11/2022 17:07

@Firen supposed to be flying out next Monday afternoon, hoping something can be sorted so I can make it 😩

My hcg has gone back up to around the 200 mark, I am seeing a consultant today and it seems likely they will offer the injection. Day 4 will be Friday and then day 7 will be Monday AM so I'm hoping my levels are coming down enough if not it looks like I'll be staying at home 😣

OP posts:
Billyv · 22/11/2022 11:42

Ahh crap @okisthisright that's frustrating. Hope the injection is ok.

My blood test on Sunday showed HCG had only dropped by 30, hoping for more of a drop when they take them again tomorrow. Still bleeding slightly.

Firen · 22/11/2022 13:15

Can you ask if you can get the injection sooner?

okisthisright · 22/11/2022 13:17

@Billyv I just wish it would go down and stY there! I've not had a bleed since October 😩

@Firen consultant is arranging injection now so should have it in the next hour or so

Billyv · 23/11/2022 16:22

Mine's ectopic too. I'm having some internal bleeding, I'm waiting for the op this evening.

So surreal!

okisthisright · 23/11/2022 16:23

@Billyv oh no I hope you're ok!! Was you in pain?

I've not had any pain or any further bleeding so I'm not sure if the injection is working, im so sorry you're going through this

Billyv · 23/11/2022 16:26

Well that's the bizarre thing! I went to a&e with pain last Thursday, they booked this scan today as a precaution. Then the pain got a lot better and I thought oh it probably was a miscarriage then. Nope. Blood leaking into my abdomen. They keep asking if I have any pain, I'm feeling alright except for a mild burning sensation.

Will you have a follow up appointment soon?

okisthisright · 23/11/2022 16:46

@Billyv that is so scary I'm glad they checked for you! I hope everything goes well for you

I've got repeat bloods on Friday for my day 4 but said they still might go up so I don't think I'll have any answers until day 7 on Monday, I'm hoping they've come down enough Monday AM because if they have they'll look to book me in again in 7 days which means I should be ok to go on my trip Monday evening🤞🏻

OP posts:
Billyv · 23/11/2022 16:53

I know! Thank god I went to a&e, I had started to feel daft for overreacting.

Apparently because I'm "young and fit" my body is doing a good job of dealing with the bleeding at the moment.

I'm taking that as a win - I'm 37 and don't feel particularly fit after 18m of sleep deprivation and junk food after DS being born.

The waiting for them to take me to theatre is the worst.

okisthisright · 23/11/2022 19:05

@Billyv definitely take it as a win!! I hope everything goes smoothly for you x

Thought I'd come on here and check in on you sorry to read your update that they found the ectopic :(
Good to read they started to treat you with the injection I hope it resolves it for you so you don't need surgery and you can get on with your life .. it's all so time consuming and life is on hold isn't it 🤦🏽‍♀️
Will you be able to make your daughters trip? X

Sorry to hear you had to go through this as well :(
I'm also almost 37 and the surgeon said it was coz of my age I was high risk for ectopics 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️
I had my op 3 months ago they didn't remove my tube just removal of ectopic and saved tube though.
Hope your op went well and your feeling ok x

okisthisright · 24/11/2022 12:16

@Billyv so glad everything went well for you and wishing you a speedy recovery!!

@Lillybobs86 they've not been able to locate but it's clear from bloods that it's not viable so they've given the injection anyway. I have my day 4 bloods tomorrow so we'll see what that brings. I'll be going for day 7 bloods on Monday morning and we fly in the evening so hoping the results are back before then

OP posts:
okisthisright · 25/11/2022 16:24

Just an update! Day 4 results received at a 13% drop just hoping the next set is the 15 🤞🏻🤞🏻
