Nub Theory - Accuracy

Hello,

Has anybody ever had a nub theory come back with a 99% accuracy and it hasn’t been correct?

The scan picture was taken at 12 weeks 3 days - I sent it off to nub techs and early glimpse, they both came back saying 98% and 99% certainty it is a boy. I was initially quite disappointed as I already have a boy and was really hoping for a girl.

I got my head round it though and came round to the idea of another boy but now the 20 week scan is approaching this week where we will get confirmation I must admit my feelings of disappointment are seeping back in again - I think this is only because so many people keep saying to me I shouldn’t believe the nub theory and it might be a girl yet which I don’t think is true.

I don’t want to feel any disappointment but I had always hoped to have a daughter and my partner only wants two children 😔 x

I don’t personally understand “gender disappointment” so I can’t empathise.
I would say that my understanding is that nub theory is an art not a science and even the 20 week scan isn’t 100% accurate.
Clearly the sex is important to you because you paid for a nub assessment. But I would try to focus on the health of your baby (remember it’s an anomaly scan not a sexing scan).

Hi @Freddiefirefly, I actually sent mine off and was told it was likely I was having a boy only for it to be confirmed at 20 weeks it was actually a little girl. She's now in my arms. I wouldn't use nub theory again. Good luck with your pregnancy!

First pregnancy - Nub theory, skull theory and ramzi theory all said boy with high certainty, I found it fun and had it done by two companies. Out popped our little girl so obviously very wrong there.

Second pregnancy - skull theory and ramzi theory said boy (no nub visible this time) but we had a check up scan the other week and I swear I saw the three lines when they were hovering around that area, so if this one is a girl too they would have all been 100% incorrect for me.

Are you going to find out via a scan or wait and see?

Gender disappointment is real and you shouldn't be made to feel bad about it.
People who struggle to conceive, have lost children and have had unsuccessful pregnancies still experience this. We all have preferences in life and that's human.

It's best not to keep the disappointment hidden but try to understand what you wanted from a daughter relationship. Please be assured everyone I know who had gender disappointment have gotten past this when the baby was born.

The nub theory can never be completely accurate as the babies sex organs grow at 16 weeks.

I hope your pregnancy goes smoothly and your able to work through your feelings x

The nub and skull theory on our 12 week scan looked like a girl - I was basically convinced after studying it. All mumsnet responses came back saying girl too, as well as friends. I stupidly spent 16 weeks of my pregnancy believing I was having a girl and got so used to that idea.

We found out the gender a couple of days ago and it was a boy - we were VERY surprised. This is my first, so I'm not necessarily disappointed as I would love one of each, but Ive have a couple of days of mild grieving for the little girl I assumed I was having. I really one a girl want one day too, very very much so.

However, if I'm lucky enough to get pregnant again I wouldn't put any weight on the nub theory. Gender disappoint is real, and of course it ALWAYS goes without saying that the health of the baby is so much more important than gender. Some mumsnetters really like to push that point as if that isn't the case for everyone.
