PGP or usual pregnancy aches?

I'm 24 weeks, and when getting up from the sofa I often feel a pain very low down in my belly inside me. It's worse in the evenings than the morning. Today it was also uncomfortable whilst pushing the shopping trolley and carrying grocery bags.

I have been walking and doing yoga regularly throughout my pregnancy without problems, and it's not uncomfortable to spread my legs apart which is what the internet suggests should be the case.

So do you think this could be pelvic girdle pain or just regular pregnancy aches? I have my 25 week appointment coming up so wasn't sure if I should ask about it then or not? Or if there's anything I should do to alleviate it? Thanks

I would ask? Mine turned into full blown SPD and was so agonising, you might need to get a support belt that has helped a bit. Walking is so painful or being stood up. I hope it doesn't get worse for you x

It could be, or it could be normal pregnancy aches. I'm suffering with full blown PGP/SPD and it literally brings me to tears every day. I'm so sore, especially when walking :(

I'm sorry to hear you have/are suffering!

I can go for a few hours (very slow!) walk which makes me think it might not be it. Fingers crossed it's not!

Hi OP. I had terrible PGP during my pregnancy. It was incredibly sore and painful to turn over in bed, get out of bed, walk up stairs, get into a car, anything that required swivelling my hips / pelvis basically. It feels like you’ve been straddling a wide horse for 7+ hours…

Have you experienced any of the above? It also accounted for my waddling! And walking did become a massive chore. I’d have to stop and take breaks. Once or twice I had to phone my partner to pick me up as I felt tearful and too sore to continue!

I didn’t bother doing anything to alleviate it, although I was referred to a physio service (huge life events occurred that meant I didn’t follow it up). You could ask for the same physio referral, but my midwife basically told me to look up exercises online.

BUT the plus side is, it disappeared after a few months! in fact, probably by 8 weeks or so. I’m now 6 months post baby and it’s mad to think I had that pain because it’s completely gone!

Don’t worry too much if it does develop or get worse - it’s all temporary and it’s just another reminder for you to rest, rest, rest pre AND post baby 🤗
