Early scan - nearly 2 weeks behind

I had an early scan yesterday due to bleeding. Fortunately everything seemed ok - there was a heart beat - but the midwife said the fetus was measuring 8 + 4. According to my last period, I should have been 10+3. Now, i know my cycle is on the longer side (30-35 days) so i was expecting to be more like 9 +5 - but only 8 and a half weeks seems strange. Do you think there could be an issue? The midwife didn’t think so - but i am worried…

I think at this stage there is still plenty of room for change in the dates/gestation. Baby's grow at all different rates and if midwife isn't concerned at this stage, try not to search the internet looking for reasons to be concerned. Wait until your dating scan at 12 weeks.

I've got a 3 year old and 29 weeks pregnant with my 2nd, with 2 miscarriages in between. "Try not to worry" is honestly the worst advise to receive cos I know it's not helpful, but looking for issues when the midwife isn't concerned won't help you either. Hope you feel better soon x

Could go either way but hopefully should be ok for you. Early scans are notoriously unreliable on dates, presumably because it's such a tiny measurement that a tiny variation can make a big difference, and it's a tricky measurement to take! Plus every baby grows at slightly different rates and has growth spurts at different times. The trend is what's important. I had a scan at 8ish weeks a few years ago and baby measured a nearly a week bigger at the 12 week scan.

I didn’t get a positive pregnancy test until 10 days after my period was due, so really hoping it just means i ovulated late :(

You could have ovulated later, especially if your test took 10 days to be positive? A 35 day cycle, ovulating on day 21 is already 7 days later than the ‘typical’ cycle and using the lmp. Now if you were just a few days later, you could have ovulated on day 25 for example, putting you 11 days behind.

I usually ovulate on day19 and the last cycle I ovulated on day 24. So I would be 10 days behind if I used my lmp, I measured ovulation. I had the private scan when I should have been (9+1) by my ov date and it was 3 days behind (8+5) what I calculated but if I used my lmp I would have been further behind (10+4). I’ve had the dating scan and it’s now measuring slightly ahead of my est lmp based on my ovulation date.

Fingers crossed… will just have to wait and see. Thanks all

If you took 10 days to test positive I would definitely say late ovulation. So assuming a positive test about 12dpo, how pregnant would that place you?

Mine was very similar, think I was dated 11/12 days behind at an early scan - they said I must have ovulated late. I thought I'd catch up abit by the 12 week scan but the first sonographer was correct. I'm expecting twins and they're measuring on track based off of the first scan, no problems with size. Hopefully you'll have ovulated late too xx

This happened to me - I ovulated late and got negative pregnancy test well after it "should" have been positive. At my early scan, I was measuring about 12 days behind, but I had some extra scans and growth and development were as expected, so they just re-estimated my due date and we carried on.

16 weeks now and everything's been textbook so far.
