Breathing in paint dust?!

advice please! I woke up to use the toilet this morning to find that when I turned the light on I was covered in white flakes… as I went back to bed the entire side of my bed was covered in what looked like the ceiling had chip away and I was sleeping in it… could this affect the baby in anyway? The paint used im sure was water based but I don’t know how much I may have breathed in and they flakes ended up being crumbly and microscopic!

unless it's lead paint it's fine.

renovation and redecoration generates dust. cleaning and dust sheeting a d wearing face masks during work is all you can do unless you move out.

possibly an indicator that you/your partner need to clean more

Hi it’s the ceiling that’s coming away nothing to do with cleaning… it’s caused by a leak in the roof that’s recently been repaired and the ceiling needs to be redone however it came away whilst I was asleep…

Are you the poster who was freaking out last night about an accidental sip of alcohol?

If so then you either need to stop messing about or calm down.

Skinnermarink · 11/11/2022 06:57

Apologies of not.

You don’t need to worry about paint dust.

Skinnermarink · 11/11/2022 06:59

It was oven cleaver wasn’t it and then avocado before that. My bad.

Strawberriesandcreammm · 11/11/2022 07:06

Absolutely not no? And also the oven cleaner was a very relevant question First time mum and overly cautious due to past stuff, I suffer with anxiety with is being helped by CBT these to me are in no way freaking me out they are precautionary to see if anyone else has experienced anything similar I’m sure if I had mum friends I’d ask them instead of being belittled on a forum.

I don’t mean to belittle you but a lot of it will be the anxiety talking, and I’m really glad you are getting help. It can be a stressful time especially if past experiences have not been good I do understand that but you are not harming the baby through fairy liquid on an oven or paint dust.

I have been told that chipped paint is not good for the respiratory and can cause adverse affects to fetal development if breathed in, I was unfortunate to have woken up with it all over my face pillow bed and shoulders..

As a one off it's absolutely fine. No dust is ideal to breathe in but the harm comes from repeated doses not from a one off so please don't worry.

It does sound like the ceiling is damp but also that you know what's caused it and it's being fixed, so again no problem having a temporary mishap. Having a whole pregnancy and then a young baby in a damp house is not ideal but it doesn't sound to me like this is your situation.

I would not give the paint a second thought provided the ceiling gets repaired.
