Fundamental height measurements - is there really any accuracy?

Hi, just after a bit of reassurance I think.

I had my bump measured for the first time yesterday at 27w6d. My measurement is showing as being way off the chart and above the 95th percentile. My midwife didn't seem at all concerned. I have a BMI of about 31 and have a big belly anyway.

When I was pregnant with my daughter I was told she was measuring big two weeks before her due date and they estimated her to be over 9lb by birth - she was born five days late, was 7lb 8oz and tiny.

My midwife has said that due to my BMI I should be getting growth scans so hopefully that'll happen and we can be more accurate with it. Should I take the fubdal height measurement with a large pinch of salt or is there something relevant here?

No, not accurate.

My bump was measured 95 percentile. The midwife told me not to panic (I was as I had Gestational Diabetes and thought I'd have a big baby because of that!). I had a scan later that day luckily. Baby was nowhere near that size (if I remember correctly he was actually on the smaller side). Born at 38+6 weighing 6lb 7oz. He's still only 30th percentile now at 9 months old so he's always stayed around the same. He was never big!
