Gestation Diabetes?

I'm pregnant with baby 2, baby 1 is 15 months old.

I was diagnosed with GD around 34 weeks which I was unable to control by diet, and ended up being induced.

Im 10 weeks now, and surely too early for GD? I've got such an insatiable thirst again (like with baby 1) and my cravings all revolve around drinking.

Has anybody else had GD this early before?

Thank you!!

Yes it can be there that early in subsequent pregnancies you should definitely have a test asap as it's important it's controlled as you know from previous pregnancy.

Can I ask when they induced you? I'm measuring big and worrying about GD and induction at the mo.

When I was diagnosed with GD, I went to a group and met someone on their 3rd pregnancy and they were testing her around the 10/12 week mark.

Were you tested for diabetes in between your pregnancies? Could it be possible your type 2 now? I would get tested immediately.
This happened with my second child and by blood sugars were way out from the first trimester.

Yes, I developed it before 18 weeks with my 3rd, and was on insulin for the rest of the pregnancy. Was induced at 38 weeks and DS still weighed 8lb9oz. Ask your midwife to get you in for a GTT.

I was diagnosed at 28 weeks thereabouts. First pregnancy but I'm pretty sure it can be earlier with your second so as pp have said speak to your midwife, they'll likely want you to do an earlier test anyways. For the pp who asked I was told I'd be induced at 38 weeks due to gd but my friend was let go to 40+5 weeks in a different trust area so it might depend on where you're located. Best to chat to the diabetic midwife or consultant about it.

Yes you can definitely get it that early but it will likely be treated as type 2 if you have it now (not that you have type 2, but that it will be treated as it)

I was diagnosed with GD with DD at 31 weeks and was induced at 38 weeks (on metformin). I got pregnant again when she was 5 months old (unplanned) and still had my blood glucose monitor so checked up on things for my own curiosity. I'd passed all the postpartum blood tests to check for actual diabetes but had been warned it might come back in subsequent pregnancies. Lo and behold, my bloods were through the roof, especially my fasting ones. I was on insulin at 5/6 weeks pregnant and told it would be treated as type 2. I couldn't get it under control and the phrase type 2 panicked me, as well as having such a young baby as well, I decided I couldn't go through with the pregnancy. The diabetes went away so was just early GD after all.

I'm pregnant again now (planned) and again have been on insulin since about 6 weeks. I have it under control now - I'll be 15 weeks tomo. Can't say for certain it's not type 2 but I'm hopeful 🤞

If you've still got your blood kit from your previous pregnancy then I'd recommend testing yourself now just to see what is occurring and obviously get help ASAP if your bloods are raised. If you don't have your kit then get in touch with your diabetic team as they will probably want to test you early. It's important to get it under control in the 1st trimester as baby's organs are developing. Hopefully you'll be in the clear for the whole pregnancy, but if not at least for a few months! It's not been pleasant navigating nausea with a lower carb diet I'll tell you 😂😭😂😭

I'm wondering the same here - diagnosed in a previous pregnancy at 32 weeks or so. Did you get any blood sugar test done at the booking appointment? They did the hba1c at mine and I understand from 12 weeks they'll ask me to do testing at home for a week.
