Maternity private room

Hi I'm due to give birth early next year and I would like to buy a private room for once I've had baby. With my first child I had a bad experience staying in the ward so this time round I want to make it a stress free experience as much as possible and also have abit of privacy for after I give birth. Has anyone paid for a private room after birth at St georges hospital before? How much do they charge? How was your experience? Thanks x

If it's that important to you I'd suggest just going private.

Highly unlikely you will be able to pay for one at an nhs hospital, they are used first and foremost for patients where it's really necessary.

Yep. Someone was put back onto the ward for me to take their place when I was on the ward. Son was unwell and I also had sepsis. They agreed that it was detrimental to my recovery if I stayed on the ward. It delayed me going into the private room for a day though which was annoying as I was pretty unwell.

Are the hospitals still strict about covid?

I gave birth in June and asked to pay for a private room but was declined. They were taking covid swabs from all patients and would put you in a room while they wait for results and as soon as you got your negative you'd get moved to the ward. In my case I was only in the private room for about 12 hours (overnight)
