Hi everyone I am 24 weeks and 3 days I have anterior placenta and this is my first baby. Is it normal in your past experiences to only feel baby loads one day then only once or twice the next day im struggling to know what's normal and I'm trying to stay calm but it's hard I was told by MW that it is normal but she didnt want to check as I can feel him on and off but like say some days it's loads and the next it's next to none?

I had an anterior placenta and didn’t feel baby an awful lot throughout - to be honest hardly at all! I’d also have very busy kicking or not very busy kicking days.

This was just my experience though.
Midwives always said to me to work out what my “normal” was re kicking and use that for a bench mark. Worst case my midwives always encouraged us to go to triage as much as we wanted for low fetal movement.

Thank you for your response that's reassuring it's just so worrying especially when you don't know what's normal and apparently you don't get a set pattern till 28 weeks well so I'm told x

I also had an anterior placenta for my first and didn't feel much until late 20 weeks. Around 25 weeks I went in as I hadn't felt him all day and they checked and said he had slid to a different position and was kicking my placenta! But when I said sorry for wasting her time she said always always always go in if you're worried as it's a quick check to put your mind at rest x

I called and they said cause I felt him once or twice they weren't concerned if it happens again I'm just gonna be pushy. Thank you for your response xxx

I had the same, really late to feel much and always sporadic!

bananaorange00 · 02/11/2022 20:35

Hopefully if they aren't worried then they know the warning signs to look for. It's so difficult with anterior isn't it! Xxx

Hi. 27 weeks tomorrow. Anterior placenta. Yes! I first felt my baby very early at 13w 5d. Some days she feels very active and strong snd others she seems to have vanished. I actually called my maternity unit yesterday as her movements had reduced and become a lot more gentle for a couple of days and it worried me. I went to get checked out and was told she's all good and today she's back to being very wriggly.

CSR721 · 02/11/2022 20:41

Hey! I had this issue. My midwife said as long as I'd felt him, even if it was really muffled, it was fine. I still ended up in maternity assessment because I was worried 🙈 but all was fine. By around 28/29 weeks, I could feel him much more consistently every day x x x

Anterior placenta here too, third baby. Literally only just in the last 10 days feeling what I could describe as "regular" movements. Up until then I hardly felt a thing! Am 31 weeks. Strangely my braxton hicks started sooner than the regular movements. I have been an anxious wreck most of the pregnancy anyway so it hasn't helped, but finally I am feeling reassured!

CSR721 · 02/11/2022 20:43

Oh and I'm 39+3 now and he still has some quieter days and some really wriggly days!

yvonneb13 · 02/11/2022 20:43

It's good to hear so many reassuring stories it's just so hard to know what to expect especially since I'm only 24 and half weeks thank you guys so much xxx

I had anterior placenta twice - first and third pregnancy. You do get reduced feelings of movement, so try not to worry. First time around, I got used to feeling the baby the way I felt him IYKWIM? As it was my first time, I didn’t know any different and he was very active.

Second pregnancy, I couldn’t believe how much I felt the baby! Little hands and feet poking my tummy.

Then third time around, I worried about reduced foetal movement a lot, because I’d gone back to the anterior placenta dulling a lot of the sensation of the baby moving. I was also over 40, had pre-eclampsia with DC2 and DC3 was a lazy bones, so I did pitch up at hospital to check things a couple of times fearing reduced movement.

If you are feeling ok and there are no other warning signs, I would try not to worry. It’s very normal to feel less movement with anterior placenta.

I feel fine apart from being anxious when I realise I haven't felt him in a few hours but when I'm busy it doesn't bother me at all they don't tell you this in the pregnancy hand book 😂 thank you for your reply x

Baby don’t tend to have regular movement patterns until 28 weeks. I have an anterior placenta and didn’t even feel obvious baby movements until I was 25 weeks. Now 27+4 and definitely feeling more regular movements but still some quieter days where I only feel a few. Although it is best to call triage if you have concerns they do say baby can have ‘quieter days’ with less movements which has been reassuring for me to know. Could just be they have moved and due to the new position they are in. But still call if concerned. Sometimes they will recommend you have something to eat and a cold sugary drink and lay in your left side in the quiet (if you can!) for an hour and see if you can feel baby move. You can also play some music or tap your belly. I have done this a few times when I’ve been busy and suddenly thought I hadn’t felt baby for a few hours. I felt movements both times.

Had a check up today he was moving HEAPS I just can't feel it damn anterior placenta definitely put my mind to ease.
