Hi,

What exactly is this for? Is it standard? I can't seem to remember this particular appointment with my last pregnancy (about 7.5years ago)

Thanks x

If it's written like that then it's probably not standard but a study.
I think it's the bit where they check the heartbeat (heart and/or cord) in the ultrasound. It happens in routine scans, have you been given an extra one?
It's nothing to worry about though, I think I've had an extra scan in every pregnancy for some sort of trial.

Hey @GingerbreadPanda
Thanks for your response.
I just received it today in the post. I'll be approx 22 weeks so after my 20 week US scan.
At my 12 weeks scan they said everything is fine so that's why I'm slightly worried now.

My midwife literally just messaged me to say that in my old notes one of my other kids was born on the 7th percentile which is classed as small so recent guidelines advise this Doppler scan to check placenta for all women who have had a previous small baby.

Whew. Hopefully nothing serious 😬

#1DC born on due date was 6lbs6oz
#2DC born exactly one week late 8lbs
#3DC exactly 2 weeks late (had to be induced due to palcenta calcification) born 7lbs1oz

Oh, reading that It's definitely because of DC3, and routine for women in your trust with your history at this time. (which doesn't really tell you if it's generally routine but tbh it doesn't matter)

Growth scan and placenta function presumably. They just want to check that the baby is growing and placenta isn't failing so they can induce if/when appropriate, but offering it doesn't mean they have any concerns about this pregnancy it's just more accurate than the routine midwife checks (which you'll still have).

Not much they can do at 22 wk though so I wouldn't be surprised if you're offered more later.

@GingerbreadPanda
Hey thanks so much for taking the time to reply! Sorry haven't responded sooner, been so busy.
You've really put my mind at ease. I was slightly panicking and you're right, I should just see it as a precaution due to DC3 and not because there are concerns. Praying all is okay and will be okay!
The midwife did say I was going to be offered extra scans from 32 weeks due to a fibroid.

When are you due? X

Glad I could calm you slightly. I'm due in January.
I have scan 4 coming up soon, for low iron, but they're not actually worried and it didn't trigger a scan in my other pregnancies. I was in a trial for routine scanning to check position (that didn't take off) last time. And they always have to repeat my 20wk due to poor position, but again not because there are/were any concerns. So obviously they could find something, but if they've not said they're worried then they're probably not.
