Spotting after a fall.......anyone help?

I'm 6 wks pg today & last night I slipped on the stairs & fell about 3 or 4 steps. This morning I woke to find spotting This is the first time I've had this since I got pg so I'm really worried.

I spoke to my surgery's midwife this morning who said to take it really easy for the rest of the day & to call back if I start bleeding. She said that many women experience spotting from 6 - 8 weeks & that it might just be coincidence that I've started spotted after falling. I'm hoping she's right but I can't help but worry about it!! What if I lose my baby because of this?

Have any of you been through a similar experience? How did everything turn out for you?

Thx all

sorry freckly but I have no experience of this, but I'm sure someone does, so try not to worry and BUMP!

Hi Freckly - I am also 6 wks - same due date as you.
I don't have any solid re-assurances but bleeding is very common at this stage of pregnancy. My friend who has just delivered a healthy baby boy had quite heavy bleeding at 7 weeks. I had some slight spotting at 4 weeks.

I would have though it unlikely to be related to your fall. Has the spotting stopped? Was it very much?

Hugs to you

Hi Freckly,

I'd agree with your midwife here and say it's a sheer coincidence. Would your period have been due about now - alot of women get spotting in early pregnancy which coincides with the time they would have been due on.
Other reasons for spotting include implantation bleeding - everything getting attached securely to the uterine wall and sending a bit of blood down along the way. Is the blood loss bright red (fresh blood) or brown (old). A brownish loss could be an implantation bleed.
Could also be coming just from the neck of the womb, this is much softer in pregnancy and more liable to bleed (especially after sex) and is quite innocent.

As for the fall - it's highly unlikely this would cause a miscarriage. Honestly the baby is so well protected. God forbid that you do miscarry it won't be due to the fall - just a sign that things were not quite right this time.

Does your local hospital have an early pregnancy clinic. I went up when I was very early pregnant with my dear son - due to bleeding - I was only 5 weeks but they scanned me and reassured me. Ask your midwife or GP - they'll know what's available.
Hope everything works out alright. Just rest up, sit on the sofa, eat boring foods and live a boring life for a week. Keep in touch with your midwife or GP if you're worried. Hoping all is well

Thanks for sharing with me MommyD & Mandy.

I've been following the midwife's advice & been taking it very easy over the past couple of days. I had a bit more spotting this morning but it seems to have stopped for now. Thankfully it hasn't been much at all & I'm glad to say it certainly hasn't worsened in any way & I haven't been cramping or anything like that.

Hopefully that will be the end of it coz even though everyone says it's quite common to have spotting in early pg you can't help but worry anyway!!

Thx for helping to put my mind at ease. Hugs to you both

Freckly I fell down a full flight of stairs when I was about 9 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby. I went to the doctor the next day as I had a lot of bruising on my left side and my stomach ached. She explained that the baby was very well protected and to go home and rest for 24 hours which I did. I had no spotting but did have a dull ache and so I was fearing the worst. That 9 week old bump is now fast asleep upstairs. Try not to worry although I knwo that is easier said than done.
