Anti sickness medication

Hi.

Currently 6+2 with DC number 2. The nausea and sickness is unreal! It was bad with my first but this seems on another level and it's kicked in earlier. I'm literally struggling to get out of bed and I cannot keep a single thing down. Even water is making me feel sick.

Has anyone had any experience of anti sickness medication in the first trimester? Any recommendations? I need to make an appt with the doctor but I want to go with a little bit of info behind me.

I just about coped with my first but there's no way I can cope like this without being signed off work which is something I really want to avoid.

Thanks in advance!

There is a really good hyperemesis support thead with loads of advice about medication if you read through or post there.

I have had several different medications in the first trimester as well as been signed off work. Don’t push yourself only do what you can and don’t let anyone tell you it’s not as bad as you think it is! I found cyclizine helpful but can make you a bit tired. Do speak to the GP asap as severe pregnancy sickness is just miserable.

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 31/10/2022 19:26

If you find the cyclizine and promethazine tablets don’t work for you, or you can’t keep them down, ask for the ondansetron film tablets they melt on your tongue, brand name is seto-film. Really good shit if nothing else works.

I can’t remember the name of the medication I had, I think it started with a C I’m sure it was just the generic one that start everyone off on, tbh it didn’t get rid of the sicky feeling but I was able to eat and function but if I remember correctly they took a while to kick in

OhhSugar · 31/10/2022 19:36

I had HG where I was hospitalised at 5+3, so super early.

You need to start meds ASAP, call your GP and ask for Cyclizine & I can't for the life of me remember the other meds (pro-something!) sorry, I can't remember the name. :(

I hope you feel better soon. Pregnancy sickness is shit.

Thanks all for your replies! Thought I'd managed to successfully keep a calippo down this morning only to bring it up an hour later 😫 Truly grim this morning sickness business! Will get on the phone to GP this morning.

My advice would be to get medication sooner rather than later. I battled through the first trimester thinking it would get better but I was still experiencing awful nausea at 16 weeks so I went to the GP and got cyclizine. Total game changer. I could have had a much more pleasant first 12 weeks if I'd gone sooner!

ChinChilly · 01/11/2022 07:57

@ispyduck Agree with @RambamThankyouMam mine didn’t stop at 12 weeks I think I was about 24 weeks before I had weaned myself off the meds!

Posted too soo ....

I struggled with HG and juggled various anti sickness meds from weeks 6-18 of both my pregnancies. It's a horrible illness. At times all I could keep down was lemon or lime ice lollies! . I don't know if this is what you have, but keep up the Callipos to stay hydrated!

I had cyclizine from 5 weeks due to nausea, and my symptoms were definitely not as severe as yours! So worth it to get me functioning again.
This website gives you loads of information on the evidence, so you can decide if you're happy www.medicinesinpregnancy.org/Medicine--pregnancy/Morning-Sickness/

All going well at 35 weeks now :)

ispyduck · 01/11/2022 15:26

Thank you so much. It makes a massive difference not feeling so alone with it. I've been prescribed cyclizine so I'm keeping fingers and toes crossed it helps. Any ideas how long it should take to kick in?

ChinChilly · 01/11/2022 16:25

@ispyduck If I remember correctly it took a few days to kick in. I kept on top of them 3 times a day then started to cut it down once I was over the worst of it

Honey03 · 07/05/2023 03:39

sorry just need some advice so I’m 5weeks and 6 days I was hospitalised at 5 weeks for 4 days due to hg, I had multiple bags of fluids and anti sickness medication, they prescribed me pro-something and cyclazine I was just wondering cos how severe it is so early will it get worse now I’m on meds, I’ve also started weekly accupuncture and I’ve found some peppermint and ginger mints that help ease my nausea I have lost 11lb in weigh in a week I am just dreading incase it gets any worse can anyone give me some hope that it might not get any worse with me being on medication also taking omeprazole and antibiotics for a uti :(
