Worried I'm pregnant

I know I need to test but won't have the opportunity to test till tomorrow as live too rurally & don't drive.

I'm around 12 days late. I have been late before but not this late. I usually get period symptoms just before my period too. I do have a mirena IUD for birth control and had a smear last week where I was told it looked to be perfectly in place.

Added to that me and my partner are long distance & moving in together in a few weeks. We've only had sex a handful of times in the last few months so it seems unlikely.

Aibu to be worried? Neither of us are really in the financial position to have a child, and I wasn't expecting it to be even thinking of it for a few years. I'm 30, so not a complete spring chicken, but I'm definitely not ready. We've been together years, but only just reached a stage where we can close the gap.

I'm feeling really anxious now - I assumed I was a bit late but would just come on soon :(

I had 2 months once in between cycles. No pregnancy detected with urine or blood test. No bleeding, so no miscarriage either. So it can happen.

in any case you’ll find out tomorrow, and it’s very early, it won’t be very hard to terminate. It might be emotionally, ofc, depending on how you feel, I’m not trying to minimise it, just saying that you have options. I perfectly understand you’re not at that stage yet.

it might be worth looking into some contraceptive now that you’re moving together with your partner.

When did you last have sex OP?
How long have you had the IUD? Try not to panic. There's nothing you can do until it's confirmed either way. Get yourself a bath, book and early night. Try and tire your brain out so you sleep well.

Thank you. My IUD is my contraception - it's a hormal one, so I should be well protected. It hasn't let me down in seven years. So in theory the chances of me being pregnant should be low.

I also just had a virus a few weeks back. Not sure if it was Covid. I think that can impact some women's menstrual cycles.

Hello. We last had sex just over two weeks ago, but he didn't ejaculate. So if I'm pregnant it would have been the previous time, which was a month ago. I'd finished my period about 4-5 days before this.

And my IUD is just 4.5 years old. I did have one prior to that which dislodged after 3 years. But as mentioned, my current one still seems to be in place.

Sorry I missed the iud part. Maybe it needs replacing? But I have no idea how it works.

there could be sperm even if he didn’t ejaculate. In the precum:

He doesn't need to have ejaculated for you to be pregnant

legophoenix · 31/10/2022 16:56

I've been 14 days late before and then it just appeared. I would have thought if you have the Mirena and it was in place properly at smear then it's highly unlikely you're pregnant. But saying that, stranger things have happened.

HailOWeen · 31/10/2022 16:58

It's not THAT common to get pregnant if he doesn't ejaculate though, is it?

I'd say with contraception in place, you're probably OK.

Yes, exactly, this is what I'm hoping. I know it's unlikely, so fingers crossed. I have taken pg tests before, always negative. I've been quite busy lately between work and the house move, so maybe it's having an impact.

YANBU! Do you regularly get periods? I had 2 mirenas (recently just removed the 2nd as we are TTC). My periods were very intermittent throughout the 6 years I had an iud in.

I was really worried before getting mine replaced in time (5 years was December 2020 and appointments were a bit trickier it get). My GP said they are still extremely effective after the 5 year mark. Also fun fact that my friends weren't told - use condoms a week to 10 days before the procedure, as if they are somehow unable to fit a new one, you could fall pregnant.
