Confused about miscarriages

I thought that if you had a miscarriage, you would know because of bleeding, but from reading people's comments on here, you can also mmc, where you don't know lo has died. I can't find any info about this in any pregnancy books (are my books just rubbish?) and am getting worried - is there really know way of knowing, before your scan, whether everything is ok? Would you still have your pregnancy symptoms (sickness, sore boobs, tiredness etc) , or would they go away? And could taking another preg test tell you? I'm just scared I'll spend the next 5 weeks til scan thinking I am, and then suddenly get a huge shock if something has gone wrong - or do you just need to always prepare yourself for that? Thanks x

With a MMC, sadly the symptoms can (not always though) carry on as normal, and on top of that the HCG that becomes present in your body whilst pregnant can take a while to go down after any pregnancy has finished (be it with MC or birth) so for a number of weeks after a MC a positive result could still show on a test.

I think the first few weeks until the first scan most women feel a bit nervous about things going wrong, but you have to remember that firstly the majority of pregnancies are 100% perfect. There is no point getting stressed about it (with out good reason, i.e. having had MC's previously) stress does you and the baby no good at all.

Congratulations on your pregnancy

Hi, I suspect the books don't mention it as, if you hadn't read about it, you might not be worrying about that particular issue? It is a horrible situation if it does arise, but also early pg is when you start with the pg worrying, and that never ends. Also, even if bleeding does happen, that doesn't neccesarily mean that you are having a mc. Sorry, there is no way of knowing if things are ok or not, without a scan, until you can feel your baby move or are far enough on for midwife to hear a heartbeat (with that usually using ultrasound too, these days).
A pg test remains positive after a mc too,so that doesn't help a great deal in that respect. However, if you have had symptoms of a mc that have settled, and then get a negative pg test that can tell you that it is all over..
BUT if you're feeling awful, sore boobs and possibly puking these are all GOOD signs that things are probably fine. So all you can do is try not to worry too much, and any problems let your GP/midwife/A&E/EPAU know.
Good luck and congratulations!
PS DD is 2 and the worry still hasn't stopped...I've heard it NEVER ends......:0
